Worst thing that can happen from a f2p or dolphin pov is to take that light at the end of the tunnel and extinguish it or move it much further away.
When that light is there it keeps you moving forward through the slog. Once it goes why bother? Not saying people will quit, but having a bunch of casual zombies who play out of habit rather than enthusiasm can't be the plan.
