Member when actors were picked for their talent and skill instead of their gender and race? Member when a character’s sole defining purpose wasn’t just to tick another box off a checklist? Member when we had strong female characters that weren’t just strong because they were women?

Laura Dern has won 4 Golden Globes and been nominated twice for an Oscar. She doesn't seem to be lacking in talent and skill. Maybe it's simply time to admit that most of the writing for Star Wars is to blame rather than the actors or actresses.
Remember that Harrison Ford said the following about Star Wara scripts:
“As a character, was not so interesting to me."
“George, you can type this shit, but you sure has hell can’t say it.”
He even went so far as to change many of his lines, including some of his most memorable.
Do you remember how stiff and uninteresting Luke is in ANH?
I suspect that if the roles of Rose and Holdo were changed to Ryan and Hector and played by two white males they'd be just as uninteresting as characters.
Also, DJ. Just as lackluster as these two. But not female. And played by a really talented actor.
I don't really see the SJW angle here.
