Arena Change Idea

Over the years I have seen people unhappy with being stuck on a shard with whales and unable to move up. Here is an idea that I think would fix this problem and make the game more interesting.

Create an arena season. I would think being 3 months so there are 4 seasons in a year. Arena would operate the same with the same payouts but at the end of the season there is a payout based off of average arena rank over the entire season. I think this is where you can introduce shards for a character like Jedi Luke, Jango, or some other popular character. So for example if you place in the top 1-10 on average you get 25 shards, 11-50 = 15 shards, 51-100= 10 shards, 100-200= 5 shard and 200+ would get you 1 shard. Then at the end of the season people are placed on a new shard based on how they preform.

I don't know if this is possible but if it is I think it would do the following:
1. Allow people to be more competitive no matter what shard they are on.
2. Bring more competition to each shard. This may cause people to pay for more arena refreshes and would make it more appealing to EA/CG
3. Have a new way to introduce a new character. If they want to drive more spending at the end of each season allow people in the top 100 to be able to by a data pack to get extra shards of the popular character.

  • The shard reward is a interesting idea and thought about the same thing but I was also thinking of introducing some sort of point system like the tournaments had for surviving toons.

But the combination of shards doesn't work.
    - who gets put last when shards are combined?
    - p2p lose advantage so they will pay less
    - new players get grouped with old players and don't have the roster to keep up at a meta change
    - the current grouping is time based and is probably the only fair way to group.

    - When shards are combined everyone would probably be set to no rank. The same as when you first started the game the shard would have already had players on it. Once you do a battle then it would rank you.
    - The game has been around long enough that paying for arena will slow down. I am not under the impression that most of the money that goes into this game goes directly towards arena. I would assume most money goes towards completing collection, raid characters, and prepping for events. I may be wrong but I have never specifically spent money to get ahead in arena, that was a secondary reason.
    - Yes but all you need is 5 good characters not an entire roster. This would make arena very difficult at the start but all new players will eventually become old players and get that advantage at some point.
    - The current grouping is the only fair way if all spending was equal. But because some people spend much more than others it causes the problem the F2P players will never be able to adjust to meta changes as fast as P2P and this causes why people are unhappy with the situation.

I do love the idea of a point system that would probably be a more effective way rate players.
  • In arena there was never a no rank system, you were placed last when you joined. Same for tournaments. This means the first 10 players to attack after that merge get the top 10 positions, that's not really fair, and will lead to issues.

With reworks and factions being reworked, having a good roster means you are faster adapt to the new meta, new players will be a distinct disadvantage. And a new p2p will be discouraged from continuing to develop if they don't get an advantage.

Time is an equalizer along with lvl cap. F2p will always be behind but over time they catch up and the freemium model is designed to frustrate people to pay, (or quit) or be happy where they are. This system would destroy that by minimizing p2p advantage to give f2p an advantage.

This would also create a bunch more payouts unless they take 20k top players (which would be a disaster ), causing alot of committed players to quit.
  • 25 shards for the best of the best over a period of 3months seems legit.
So after playing (and be on top of the leaderboard) for 3.5 years you have at seven stars.

If you are top 50, it takes you 5.5 years...
That's a looooong tournament, but the devs have enough time to adjust the skills to match the power level to 2020s characters.

Well, I don't want to go to deep on details, but I would suggest not to touch the current arena design and for seasons, just add another game mode (PvP).

I would still prefer more PvE Content. That's fun if balanced.

This toon could rotate with release cadence, not ment to max a toon just give another boost to top players.
