Assault Battles #2: Forest Moon

Hey everyone,

On Monday, July 4, we will be launching the next Assault Battle. These events are aimed at near-max level players (>=75). You may have already played the initial one, "Military Might". This one will have the following criteria:

  • Unlocks at level 75
  • Two tiers

    • Tier 1 is tuned for level 78+, G7+, this is the "hard" difficulty
    • Tier 2 is tuned for level 81 (doable at 80), G9+, this is the "very hard" difficulty, unlocks when tier 1 is completed

  • Requires Empire or Droid characters. No star requirements.
  • Event Power: "Defend" - Gain 70% damage resistance for one turn and heal 15% of max hp. 2 turn cooldown.
  • First time complete is 1 million credits, 10 Ewok Elder & Scout shards, 5 Chirpa & Teebo shards.
  • Repeat completion will award ~50k credits, and 3 buckets of Ewok shards (one bucket all, one bucket Chirpa or Teebo, one bucket Elder or Scout)m a bucket of green salvage, a bucket of blue salvage, and a bucket of purple salvage (similar to Military Might).
  • Achievement awards 10 Vader shards and 5000 ally coins. Complete tier 1 to earn the achievement.

I am curious to know your thoughts about these events. Note that they repeat, so we do not necessarily expect high participation on the outset. I like the idea of difficult end-game content on rotation that people can spend downtime preparing for. This is the second one of these we will be running, so at this point people should generally understand them. What are your thoughts and opinions on these events?

  • Yes thanks for the information @CapGaSP this type of information is useful when considering threads. Also curious to know why previously done events can't be set on a time loop to make things easier for you guys.

Because the current system sounds like a nightmare especially over time as the game slowly dies out.
  • Generally previously run events aren't immediately re-run until they're analyzed. Each event has a goal. In the case of Assault Battles, those are to provide fun challenging content for "elder" players (lvl 75+). After we run an event I sit down with the product manager and a data scientist and look at how it performed. Most of the time they require tweaks to meet their goals before being rerun. That takes time, and sometimes these analysis ("post mortem") meetings don't happen right away (everyone is very busy, after all, and there's a lot of data to analyze from a game this size). For example, one of the problems I identified with the first two ABs I ran was that they simply took too long. I don't want to add stuff that you feel like you need to spend an hour playing every day for 7 days. So for the rerun of ABs one of the things I'm potentially looking is is less free plays, but compacting the rewards more so that you get around the same for less time spent. Then that work has to be scheduled, and I have a lot of other things I'm working on. And it all gets prioritized and assigned into an update.
  • This event was far easier than the Empire event. I was able to clear it rather easily with a gear 8 47 (lead), 88, 86, and Vader, all 7* except Vader (6*) with gear 10 7* Palpatine. Most were full modded, though not all, and most mods were only Mk 1-2. Only a handful of abilities were omega. I was expecting a brawl, but cleared it with ease. Rather unexpected.

I like @Aero 's suggested changes. Most of all the TM gain on death of allies for the elders. Perhaps for the next run around?
