Avatar problems

For a few months now I've been a grey smiley face. This was not my choice.  When I click on My Settings, the edit pencil at the side of my PFP is gone. I don't know why it disappeared, or how to get it back, or whether it's anything to do with a junior account. I've changed my PFP in Account Management on a separate page, but it hasn't seemed to have updated here either. And the choice of PFPs didn't have the one I originally had anyway. Any tips?

Edit: Ok, it updated. The pencil's still gone, and that’s what I’d like to fix
