You still have to pay to open the packs though lol
No you can get crystals and horde them and use them to open packs you don't have to BUY (as in SPEND $$$) to acquire the crystal......
It will take you two months of saving crystals by ranking #1 everyday and without spending any as a free to play and even then you're not guaranteed to have him 7*. I doubt anyone goes this route.
