Balance: Gone / Gear Grind: Wasted / Game: Ruined

You maniacs. You blew it up. This scene was all I could think of last night:

http://i.imgur.com/A9DsJn5.gif

Yesterday, base stats mattered. Rey had 164 speed, QGJ had 145 speed, and these subtle differences in stats determined the order in which toons attacked, how they played. This is now completely irrelevant as mods determine speed and attacking order.

Yesterday, RG was a tank and Rey was a glass cannon with foresight for 1 round of protection. Now, RG has the health of the Rancor and Rey is a DPS tank. Protection was brought in to prevent toons from being one-shotted, protection is now rendered useless in many cases.

Yesterday, going from 5 stars to 7 stars made a significant difference to the performance of a toon. Now, the change is trivial compared to the effect of equipping mods.

Yesterday, going from gear 8 to gear 9 or 10 with hard-earned raid gear made a massive difference. Now, it's invalidated by ridiculously overpowered mods. Why grind gear when you can grind out some new mods? And who's to say your nemesis in the arena won't have better stats, due to a lucky RNG?

This isn't SWGOH anymore. If I'd just downloaded this today and seen the state of it, I would have uninstalled it immediately. As I write this, I still have a 5 star review on iTunes, despite all of my previous criticism - because despite everything I loved the game, I loved the gameplay, it was genuinely pleasurable to use the toons I put time and a truck-load of money into. I'm off to update my review after writing this.

The time I spent building a heroic P1 raid team to grind raid gear, the money I spent refreshing shipments for raid gear, the shard shop currency I just spent on raid gear during the last week, all of it feels like it was absolutely for nothing today.

I looked in mod shipments and I laughed, seriously, out loud. You have got to be kidding.

When I read the notes yesterday and I saw Cody, I practically had my credit card in my hand. I was ready to break my vow to never buy another chromium, because I thought he looked like a great toon. FORGET IT! There is no clone synergy anymore, there's just Rey with the power of 1,000 Jedi one-shotting everything in sight.

This was a Michael Bay style update, there were no subtle tweaks to existing character balance. This is the equivalent of moving from rifles and grenades to nuclear warheads.

I bought over 100 vaults. Just do the math. I'm a whale and I hate the update. I hate what you've done to this game. You've ruined it, you've blown it up, you've lost a customer. I'm giving this a week and then I'm walking away if nothing changes. I don't care how much I've spent, I'll write the whole lot of it off, I'm fully prepared to do so.

This was a big middle finger to every player who's supported this game, free or paid.

Now I wanna wait and see what happens and if things don't improve I think I'm probably done spending aside from topping up crystals for refreshes from time to time. So probably doesn't mean much to CG/EA but the £320 I was gonna spend tonight is now staying in my bank

Every bit not spent counts, and isolated it may not look like a ton to a gaming company, the droves that won't spend now will be very evident.

Personally I think from the beginning, there was a lot of flawed marketing. Chromium Packs should never have existed as they do, because they aren't ideal to sustain business. The version of Chromium packs that should have existed, is more akin to say, a mini pack with 10 heroes. Maybe a 2 exclusives and then the rest littered with farmables. Currently, if you have all of the chromium exclusives, there's no incentive to really pay crazy amounts for the "new" character that hits. It's smarter to typically wait a few cycles until there's 3-4 that you can buy up.

Anyways, I am in the same boat as you. I am holding my spending until I see something that details the direction that this game is headed. I like to support the games I play, but very much like in sports, if my team's general management refuses to put a quality product on the field, and is only about milking attendance, then I am not nearly as inclined to support that team night in and night out.

Yeah I've spent quite a bit and was all excited for Cody too, was totally going to buy packs for him. Once I saw how Mods basically eliminated the need for specific characters and they're so overwhelmingly powerful, there's no way I'm spending another dime on this game.

Oooh look at the diversity mods created.

It's too complicated, too time consuming, and cost too much money to continue in my current role as beta tester for this game. Fortunately for EA for all of us with dried up wallets, new and fresh faces will appear to take our place. It's been a good ride but it's time to get off this wreck now.

It's almost like EA is trying to make this a PC or Console game where people live in their Mom's basement eating Hot Pockets, Cheetos, and Mountain Dew with hours upon hours of time to play this game and figure things out, not to mention some pretty large disposable income.

    Ehhh, some do.

Perhaps they saw their current players as too toxic and the forums and decided to get rid of us all?

Haha, admittedly we can be a bit toxic. We'd probably be throwing fruit at them if this was Shakespeare.

Lol, it's a toxic forum, but we almost unanimously agree on mods. AHAHAHA

I don't normally agree with much that you post here but I agree with this.

I think this is the point, this update so badly judged the mood of the game's community that virtually every player, whether free or paid, is shocked at the end result. Nobody likes to see their investment wasted, be that time, money or both. The update has wiped away too much of what made the game SWGOH - the one we all signed up to playing.

A couple of players have soloed the entire heroic raid today, all phases, with one team. This just shows how utterly broken the system is.

@EA_Jesse and @CG_JohnSalera I doubt you intended for the hardest raid in the game to be soloed by one player using a single team - we need a developer update ASAP, you can't just sit on this for a week.

And can we have our game back please?

Jesse hasbugged out to the uk on a work jolly
  • I normally stay away from complaining on here but OP hit this on the head. I've recently spent some money on the game now I wish I hadn't. This killed it for me. I was enjoying working hard to get a new character that would help me and grinding their gear wasn't eve that bad due to increasing me team and helping me raid. Now it's all wasted I modded my QGJ and Rey and watched what they could do and I'm like the fun is gone. Now to hear someone soloed a heroic it's like what's the point. It sucks too cause I wanted to see what rouge one characters came out soon. I'll wait to see if something happens but I won't hold my breath. I at least met some cool people through the guilds but as an avid Star Wars fan it kills me to see what was a decent game ruined.
  • OP nailed it. Terrible implementation and massively overpowered. Completely destroys the subtleties of individual toons. Brutal.
