Balance.. what do you think it means?

I read the word ‘balance’ in so many threads on here but it’s used is so many ways and it appears to have several meanings, so could someone clarify?

I thought balance would mean that each character or team set up would have a counter team capable of beating it... hence balance.
I’ve read others using ‘balance’ too in this sense also.

I’ve read others applying balance to mean better geared teams should always have an advantage over poorer geared teams while seemingly ignoring other factors such as gameplay.

Others yet, take balance to mean more than exclusive toons should hold an advantage over other toons. Another interpretation is that balance should apply to offense v defence capabilities.

I realise multi meanings can exist, but as some who doesn’t really play games online other than this one, I never quite understand the true mean of the term in swgoh context.

Sorry for long text.

To some degree, we create our own balance in the game.
    For instance you could have
    Rebels for ARENA
    Clones for haat
    Phoenix for combats in tb
Maybe another sqaud or 2 for gw.
Or you could just max out resistantance with Finn zeta and do pretty good on all those modes

yet people call resistance ballanced ;)

Balance is having a toon that can either provide really great support, control, healing, OR damage to a team or having a toon that can provide mediocre support, control, healing, AND damage to a team.

Barris is a great example of a balanced toon since she can provide really strong healing capabilities and a decent cleanse to your team at the cost of terrible offensive output. She is an asset to any team while still requiring good team building on your end to make her work well.

CLS is a great example of an unbalanced toon since he can provide great damage, great control, great support, has great bass stats, and has great individual surviveability. You can put him into any team and he'll work well, so using CLS in your team requires little thought as far as team building goes.

Having good balance is having a game environment that is conducive to theory crafting

Yet cmdr luke in a mediocre team is still worse than barriss in a good team. Seems to me your definition of balance is tailored to make luke unbalanced and barriss balanced.
Don't get me wrong, i do consider cmdr luke to be a better character than barriss. And yes, there are only a few 4 man teams where barriss would be a better 5th than cmdr luke would be. So you won't see mee arguing that cmdr luke is balanced, or more balanced than barriss. I do however disagree with your reasoning and with the conclusion that barriss is balanced while cdmr luke isn't. With a bit of imagination you can make any character that is in the top20 of the meta report seem unbalanced compared to any other character in that same top20 or in the entire game.
imo using the (un)balanced argument is just a great way to end a discussion. If you want to be right, just call it unbalanced and the discussion is over. Nobody can argue against it. Well, they can try like i just did, but your argument still holds true no matter what i say. Looking at barriss vs luke the way you do, you're 100% right.
This comment ins't aimed at you specifically, pretty much everyone does the same thing, myself included. It just usually leads to no where. Then again, what discussion on this forum ever does? ;)

Difference is that Barris is bad in a mediocre team while Luke is still good in a mediocre team. You have to put Barris into your team with characters that work well around her skillset

    All work in several sqauds.
Cls is very good and I hate fighting him in arena every day. But I beat him 3 out of 5 times.
I will unlock him next time event comes but I doubt I'll gear him past the minimum needed for tb special mission.
FO and resistantance will soon be meta and we will see at least less cls teams in arena

Gear him up if you get him man. Very worthy investment for most areas of the game.
  • Balance is something this game is completely lacking. Baze Malbus and chirrut can make a team unbeatable. Baze is way OP’d tank
  • Baze is finn's do boy and chirrut is poe's lap dog.
    Build zeta Finn resistantance.

we're 10 months past that already.
  • Balance means not releasing characters like CLS. Everyone hated Chase (and most still do) because they were the epitome of kitten that does everything and does it well.

But of course the devs don’t listen and merged those two into one character.

    That’s certainly not balance.
  • moved to sub forum, as this has run it course.

Some good discussion here and stayed on topic (for the most part)
