It’s entirely possible for others to complain about a thing without being “outraged” by the thing.
I think it's safe to presume that CG got approval from the necessary teams managing the IP. If CG got approval from the teams managing the IP, then the story behind the character is to be accepted as cannon. If the story behind the character is to be accepted as cannon, then it's pointless to argue against the character being at the battle because you would be ignoring established lore and you'd be factually incorrect.
I believe any points questioning what the character could have contributed to the mission or why they were needed on the front lines have been thoroughly addressed.
Whether or not you guys can reconcile a new character is up to you, but it's really not that hard.
