Cody is terribly disappointing

Thought if I got him geared and modded, he would get better. Even modded multiple different combinations to build a viable team with him on it. No dice. So sad to put so much into him and never even be able to take him off the shelf. I think that they meant for him to be moddable pre mod nerf. Now what? What would it take to get a rework?

  • I have enough to 7* him, but I won't until I see some issues resolved from the community. The devs won't care since they have my money...but I'm satisfied either way since I was chasing other toons who are leveled and being enjoyed. Cody seems to have potential, but I have enough squishy toons who need gear without boosting up another one even squishier than they.
  • Cody sucks on his own, but Cody has made my entire clone squad devastating and was the missing link in the team. I run a team with Cody as a leader for his crit chance leader bonus, then fives, echo, Rex and Leia. When unleashing cody's team attack all my toons attack, with Leia usually doing more than one and Echo doing between 4-7 attacks. I've used crit chance mods on Echo and Leia which means I do at least 6, but usually more than 8 crits. This allows me to use Cody's team attack almost every round, and this team attack pretty much kills an opponent instantly. If he can't do his team attack Cody can either do a powerful AOE attack with stun, or with his normal attack he can heal himself (thanks to echo) and gain up to 60% turn meter. Which then allows you to do the team attack pretty quickly again.

Add to this Rex's tenacity buff, and 25% turn meter removal. Fives' speed down, assist attack, and counter. Echo's clone heal (healing clone allies twice per round at highest level), insane amounts of assists, and debuff grenade. And finally Leia's insane amount of damage and combined this makes the most powerful team I have ever seen.

Would I like to have more health on Rex, Cody, and/or Echo? Sure, but that would make this team unstoppable. The survivability of some of the characters is the only flaw in this team, but without it the team would be way overpowered.

That you don't know how to tactically utilize the power of Cody is not a design flaw from the devs.
  • I think it's likely that many folks are using the argument that he's weak because he really only ideally fits into an (hard to achieve full) Clone Squad and is not very sustainable or useful outside of that. That is clearly by design when you look at his abilities. Whether that's a strength or not is up to the user. Two of the clones are F2P and attainable. Paired with Leia as you suggest is a good idea. On his own? Maybe not so useful.
  • Absolutely true, he his not great on his own, and the team is hard to achieve at the moment. But it should be as the people that do own this team have invested quite a lot of money in it. in a few months I'm sure Echo and Rex shards will drop in the GW, and arena store which will make this team obtainable by f2p players. And then you'll see more of these teams pop up. If you can wait for that then please do, it is so worth it. These are the only toons I have invested money in and I haven't regretted it one bit.

Anyone with a speed burst team will be able to kill Cody in your set up before he even moves. Given the fact that your entire set up is based on Cody's ability do do massive burst with his assist, the team falls apart very quickly once he is out of the way. The AI does not even use his assist first which is required to prime the team. Leia is really the only toon there who is considered fast and she can do nothing to prevent Cody's demise.

As you have pointed out, once he gets going his mechanics can overcome his flaws (TM gain for low speed, health recovery etc.). At top end arena, he cannot hold rank. The kill order to win against your team is deterministic, once Cody dies the team is done.

Ah yes I'm sure that's true, but I don't care about being high up in the arena. I want to enjoy playing with a team. And I really enjoy playing this team against the rancor, and in GW. I
Do my daily arena battles just to keep receiving a minimum of 500 tokens and that's it.

All this matters not when Rey one shots Cody before anyone else acts.
  • Even in full clone squads, he is a significant downgrade from a dozen other non clone toons. He was farmed expressly for use in 5 clones and 4 clones +1 teams. The damage penalty makes 212th softer than rey's big hit, and he rarely lives to go again... even if leading. This is with him speed modded and everyone else crit chance modded.

    Starting point for fix:
Change %def per clone to standalone unique, not requiring lead. Increase speed by 20, health by 3000. Reduce damage penalty on 212th by 10 and make omega on that ability to give 2 turns advantage to every assist that fails to crit.

Bonus suggestion: give him a passive assist like Cody's

Main point: p2p players want to be able to enjoy playing their favorite characters without having to take a big hit in success to do so. He should be turned well enough not to have to warm the bench
