Coliseum rewards: A Modest Proposal

We're supposed to get enough rewards to reach L65 as FtP. That has not been the case for me. I'm not sure why, but I have a proposal. 

I spent crystals during Luke's event to jump start r10 acquisition, so I had more of the earliest mats than I needed bc of that. But beyond those tier-1 mats, I've simply played along, focussing my crystal spending on shards rather than era levels. 

This allowed me to access Maul, so I do have 1 character more than I otherwise would, and perhaps that's the issue, but materials dropped with the Maul event making me think that I could level 55 him without hurting my progress on my other toons. 

Instead I have 5 toons at L70 while two toons are still trapped behind the L55 gate. I have all the Performance Cores I need (and, in fact, 200 extra) and plenty of era level currency, but not the last 1000 or so Ability Modules. 

I could, of course, spend crystals to gain those Ability Modules, but to be honest, it's not worth it. I have ridiculous numbers of gear salvage and could take any toon I like from g1 to g13 in an instant. So the moment they're released to the main game, I will have them at relics with zero crystal spending. 

What that won't do is let me play around with other toons in Coliseum. I'm locked in to the first 5 toons I gave L55: no others are possible. 

So I'm wondering why not let players down-convert Ability Modules and Performance Cores? You could even limit the ability to do that to after the final character in the era is released so that unsophisticated players don't hose themselves. But I'd like to at least play around with those toons at L65+ where more of their abilities are available so they play more like they will once released into the main game. If I had to trade some of my L65+ mats to get those toons up to useful levels, I would. 

But I'm not spending crystals when I have a monster-sized gear stash just waiting for something to spend it on.

    I also suspected that unlocking Maul was where things went wrong, but I'm still not sure how, since it doesn't seem to have hurt some folks.

    Oh, yeah. Totally accepted that you're posting in good faith. 

    I don't really understand it either. But the fact that there's someone else who is also short the exact same number of Ability Modules that I am makes me think there's something messed up in the coding.

     

    I'm at ~60% t7 on all the bosses except the AT/ST, I think. Or maybe I'm t7 on that too. I just can't remember for sure. In any case I'm long past the ability to collect more of the Mk5 mats needed to progress from 46 => 55. There's nothing else available for me to use. 

  • I am struggling to understand how this has happened to you, MasterSeedy​ . Where have you reached against each of the 4 bosses? 

    One thing I’m wondering about is the impact of taking some toons much further than others on your ability to level up the later Marquee units. 

    I spread out my upgrade materials on all the earlier units, and from memory this always left me in a position to take the latest Marquee up to around the same level as the others immediately on unlocking them. I’m wondering if there’s some mechanism that allows players to level their newest marquee to the level of their lowest era character, which would mean my approach was optimal? And levelling one era unit much higher than another was counterproductive? 

    I reached t8 on all bosses before Vader arrived, and had reached it on the two single target bosses before Barriss arrived. When you clear 40% on t7 - on all bosses - there’s no more materials coming from reward boxes, so it seems odd that I’ve been able to take all era characters north of Lv70 without spending anything. 

    I repeat my assertion that I’ve spent absolutely no money or crystals on any upgrade materials throughout this era. Hopefully you’ll take that assertion in good faith, given a long history of mutual forum respect between us! 

  • unlocking maul likely screwed you I found myself in a simalar boat it would have required I spent 24 via the mats or 20 via the pass to correct it. but Now I don't have the mats to get anyone about lvl 70 they really went out of their way to make it as confusing as possible

    I am also exactly 1300 ability mods short. 

    I don't like having this stuff so rigorously planned and limited -- especially when they're going to reset our resources to zero at the beginning of the next era. 

    We can't hoard, so why cut things so close you end up botching things and preventing players from getting their toons to the level you previously announced all the toons would reach? 

  • They've definitely botched the reward calculations. I maxed out all the marquees on day 1 so I've gotten all the potential rewards, yet the max level is still impossible to obtain.

  • I am in a similar situation with 2 different F2P accounts where I spent crystals to get the era characters to 4* so that I could get Maul but I find that I am short of the MK5 Cresh Ability Module to get all of my characters to L65.  I had assumed that based on the early information that we would eventually get enough of all of the era mods to get all characters to L65 (including Maul).  I think that I am around 1300 ability mods short on both accounts to get everyone to L65.   I also don't want to spend additional crystals on this as I am trying to save up for the next Era.
