Commander Cody - Survival Issues

This is not technically a bug but is a glaring issue on character viability and should be amended.

He is basically a slow glass cannon without any survival skills. Every other toon that falls into this category has been proven to be useless in arena (think darth maul). Without mods, he easily gets 1 shot by rey. With mods, u get him to turn 2 if you are lucky.

Also, defense on his leader skill seems like an afterthought. This could have been something more useful to increase survivability overall which is a recurring deficiency of most clones. Again, this could have worked with flat defense bonuses (secondary flat defense bonuses are too marginal to have much of an impact). An interesting idea I had was to swap his defense bonus (which is largely ineffective) out for a revive chance based on the number of clone allies alive. Something in the ballpark of ~60% revive would require opponents to choose to focus cody or the other clones first, indirectly making him more survivable. Unlike other self revive toons (HK, Boba), Cody actually can do some damage and poses a real threat if not dealt with.

  • So please tell me if you actually have cody and have played him personally. The odds of him even getting a turn to start are very low, he often dies before he gets to move. Maybe not a 1 shot issue any more per se, but in the same boat. There are set ups which will allow him to get a turn, which are non competitive (like using RG). Yes I have tried many of them as well. He has a good kit which gives him and his team traction once they start rolling. All Im asking is that they have a mechanic to do so.

    Poor speed, poor health, mechanic which requires a specific team to function, poor damage mitigation ability. This is a good formula for a bench warmer ( arena ), an expensive one at that.

    He obviously has no idea of what's he's talking about. I have 7* Cody, max gear and mods. He is useless. He is easily 1 hit by Rey, and his call assist attack doesn't even clear QGJ's protection. He is currently "weak" at best with a full clone team, and useless without.
  • I agree with the points he re Cody. HP and Prot upgrade will make him much better.

    Echo suffered similarly but Mods at least make him viable in Arena now.

    But I am sure his EMP grenade didn't used to have a cooldown of 6 (5 with Omega), which makes it a first turn, one use only attack. A dispel every 6 or 5 turns is useless and pointless as you probably won't have a use for it early on in a battle and all the taunt toons can re taunt so much quicker.

    Sure it was 5 when he first came out with Omega making it 4. Anyone else notice this?

    No idea why the Devs are making these great characters so poor.

    Rey can 1 shot him. Perhaps players on your server aren't modding their Rey's well, but I know on mine Rey can do that.

    The issue is not just his health, it's his health relative to his damage. Other DPS that deal more damage than Cody have about 30% more total health than him as well, not to mention Rey has easily attainable Foresight. Cody definitely needs a rework, or he risks being yet another unused character.
  • +1 to all his flaws mentioned. He's flagged as an attacker but his damage comes from his assist, his aoe is just for the stun which hardly lands and his basic while nice you're not gonna ever use it cause by the time you've used his other specials he's dead.

    What Im starting to see is there needs to be a couple things for Cody to survive.

    1. Gear 11, period
    2. Zeta on leader
    3. General Kenobi at max gear, 5star is fine

    I still think the Clones are at a huge disadvantage because they lack buff immunity, and daze. Outside of AAT raid I dont think youll see many full Clone squads that dont have incredible mods in top10 arena. The key will be some kind of hybrid.
  • With the plethora of kenobis that will be hitting arenas post 2016, cody's 212st really just gets neutered completely. Coupled with Barris zeta being a hit, the last thing you want to do is to be hitting for a huge number of weak crits. Without significant rework somewhere in the clone line up, these guys are pretty much dusted.

    They could be a good AAT squad, but that's it. They are a no-go for Arena IMO.
