Conquest Change - intentional?

Previous grind (which was boring) was turned to even worse.
Id love to do feats while going through conquest instead of using GLs to clear path and then grinding feats on the bonus node. Most feat teams are not good enough to survive (even at relics) to get 3*. So its better clear way with GLs and then farm feats with suitable bonus.
But no feat squads are not meant to be used while going through - just 40 x grind fest in same node.
