It's about nipping it in the bud. Realistically, to be an effective deterrent, the sanctions need to be swift, certain and proportionally severe. Ignoring it will create a grey area where others could continue to exploit and additionally, new folks could engage in the egregious act thinking there won't be a puishment. The Vader was a failure of action, to do it again is an offense to the playerbase.
