Here's my take on the Darth Revan/Malak situation. They announced in the previous road ahead that they would be releasing the "kotor companions" I believe. What this does eventually is allow new players to choose from 9 different toons to farm for the JKR event.
JKR was a journey. It required specific characters; there is no choice.
