The problem described here has a lot of prongs:
On the one hand, yes, we are seeing lots of veteran players leave the game in response to TB, but I wouldn't say they are leaving "because of TB". More that they were burning out and getting exhausted for a while, and TB contributed to that burnout, and did little to pull them back.
This portion is insightful.
When this game began, there was little to it. Collect a little bit each day and you're done. People interested in collection and Star Wars hopped on board. Yes, there was arena and eventually GW, but it was still mostly collect a little bit, and you're done.
Then came guilds and Rancor. That added a little bit of activity viewed as "necessary". Then came the tank raid. Then came fleets and the fleet arena. All the while, new people are joining and veterans are continuing. We are starting to have two distinct sets of people playing this game.
We have the collectors that would still like to just collect a little and be done for the day. These are the ones that complain when anything is released that "forces" them to spend more time playing. And we also have the collector/players, the ones that are more obsessed with playing and looking for more content, more things to do with your characters.
Each of those two sets of people had various responses to territory battles. For the most part, the ones that started two years ago just wanting a game to collect star wars related stuff feel like the "time commitment" for territory battles is too much, on top of the raids and GW that they already didn't like doing. These are the ones I generally see creating threads saying "Who asked for more content?"
The other group you would think would want more content, more stuff to do with your characters. These seem to tend to find either enjoyment with TB (I am one), or not so interested (repeats of the same battles over and over they say).
I would say, especially for the first group, TB isn't what made them quit, but it was the straw breaking the camel's back. After raids, GW, and not crystals in fleet, TB is yet another thing they didn't want to do.
The other problem inherent to this is not really a problem with TB at all but a problem with (a) mismatched guilds and (b) over obsession with maxing everything.
Officers getting burned out with territory battles and now on the horizon territory wars are either in a guild where not everyone is as interested in all aspects of the game or maxing out the game as they are (TB encourages guilds that are both at similar level of rosters as well as similar levels of engagement) or they are over obsessed with maxing every little thing.
To this I can only say, relax. 43* is not much better than 39*. And Territory Wars doesn't have to be micromanaged. It can take literally two seconds the first day, about two minutes the second day, and less than 15 minutes the third day. For the officer, add 1 - 2 minutes to add in-game messages on the map and you're done. The difference in rewards between winning and losing is not a large enough difference to try to micromanage. Unless you actually enjoy that kind of masochism, in which case, eat your heart out.
