Why so angry…?

These forums are almost completely filled with complaints lol… I have to say that I enjoy this game. That’s it. That’s the post. May the force be with you.

  • I'm with you on wanting to spread positivity. I love this game too. I also believe CG is mishandling it pretty severely, so I also understand the complaints. There isn't any other place for the voices of the playerbase to be heard and the forums are almost entirely negative..... That says something, unfortunately.

I really wish the higher up decision makers at CG cared about making a game that lasts and has passionate fans, because the people there doing the real work certainly do, and the community really really wants to love this game. I don't think most people really enjoy being negative on here, its just the only option when something you care about so much is a source of frustration.

They have been negative since the beginning. The game is dying for about 6 years if you believe them.
There wasnt a single new content update they didn't hate.

I kind of disagree with that. I've been here since year 2, and I've seen a TON of positivity. There is for sure some overreaction, but as someone who has quit and come back with better mental, I really think most of the criticism comes from a place of wanting to love the game and being very sad when changes feel cash-grabby, or upset a very delicate balance that people make investment decisions on.

I agree that there will likely always be haters, but at the same time, this much hate this consistently is indicative of some concerning decision making in my opinion. And The industry has proven that that doesn't have to be the case. If you really put care into your players' experience and do your best to improve on that across the board, success generally follows. And a lot more goodwill is given when you mess something up.

that's one of the reason a lot of really indie mobile devs can build relatively big followings. because they listen and do their best to make the players' experience good and take responsibility when they mess up and the playerbase is upset.

  • OK, so the first post I wrote for this thread disappeared or got deleted a little after I edited it (just to add a few more details, nothing more), so I'll just give an overview of what I'd writen:

    1. Constant bugs, new and old. Levi stunning two ships after using its Ult. oFulcrum, immortal GG, one of the previous Conquests that had GamGuards and Rancor as bosses in S1. Many of them took months to be fixed. Especially frustrating considering that CG immediately fix the bugs that benefit players.
    2. Lack of actual communication and explanation on major changes. P1 and the recent fleet changes, the new AB cadence.
    3. Replacing older events that are especially beneficial for new and mid-game (and even veteran) players with new events that require the latest toons at specific relic levels. The new raid system where you have to farm multiple toons, in most cases either garbage or the latest ones, only for a new raid to be released, forcing you to farm a whole new set of toons; the whole rotation for old ABs to accomodate new ones.
    4. OP and bugged DCs, especially on GLs. Remember the Padme cron on JMK, or the Holdo cron on Rey, or the 70% evasion and 200% defense on any GLs, or the extra Rey Ult damage cron, the JMK ignores Prot cron. Or the Inq cron with the lv6 assist on purge that causes the entire team to swarm you.
    5. Special DCs for marquees and JG toons. Baylan, Great Mothers, POW, am I missing anyone else.
    6. Overtuned enemies and RNG-dependent events. The Naboo raid, some of the recent JG events.
    7. Constantly increasing relic requirements. JJB, GI, Aphra, SK all require R5 toons. Bo and Baylan require multiple toons at R7, nothing below that. GLAT requires 3 R9s, 1 R8, several R7s, and only 3 R5s, and we still have one more set to be released. RotE has a minimum entry level of R5 and goes up to R9 with each wave.
    8. Lagging and excessively long animations. Even on 4x speed, some animations take up way too much time. The AA+VA combo is especially frustrating, as it often causes the game to freeze for at least 15 seconds on certain abilities (like LV's kit).
    9. Too much of a time sink. Hell week where we have TB, Conquest, Raids and several minor non-simmable events all at the same time. Also take into account having to restart a raid attempt because of bad RNG.
    10. Little to no testing. (Almost) every time a new toon or ship is released, not even a week later, sometimes on the same day as the release, we get a note that it is bugged, not performing well enough, performing too well against certain teams.
  • What is your GP? Are u a competitive player? That is very important, if u are 100% f2p and don't care about fleet arena and GAC i can understand u (very smart decision being f2p btw). But CG treats its players like **bleep**, which makes their frustration on the forums reasonable.

Do you mind to elaborate on CG treating players like **???**?

I have been playing this game for years and in my opinion it is in a much better state than it was a few years ago.
Especially on the f2p side. They put a lot of interesting and strong new chars on cantina nodes. The og-Jedi Team for the raid with luminara, fisto and friends is powerful and easy to gear.  They put new chars on the galactic war store(green jewels), which is awesome for new players. A lot of new chars can be used in old squads and are rather flexible. Great mothers are an excellent easy farm f2p high quality toon to make a great squad. We need more things like that. The game cant just be about spending more money than the rest.

To be honest. Punishing one is a bit overtuned but was necessary to lift the executor. The Tie dagger update was semi optimal and baylan skoll is weak. Well. You shouldn't buy every pig in a poke. You cant expect every new event toon to be the new apex predator. It's not CGs fault if you spend money on something and regret it. They never promised you the next most powerful team/toon. It's just your expactations.

Fleet arena should be abolished. The shard system is as bad as it was for the old squad arena. GAC isn't optimal but way better than beeing stuck with op whales who can easily dominate the whole shard. It was a good decision to pit them against each other.
As someone stuck in one of the early fleet shards I just cant care about fleet arena. I will never manage to get into high payout tiers.

I usually try to be positive, but even I can give a few examples/reasons:

        1. The myriad of bugs, new and old. There are bugs that have been present for a few months at least and have yet to be fixed. And every other update somehow brings at least two new ones. Look at the immortal GG and oFulcrum bugs. They showed up out of nowhere, and it took months until they were fixed. Last week's update took care of TIE's gaining marked due to Scythe under Chimera, now they don't get marked with Executrix, even though Scythe's unique specifically mentions that they should be getting marked under with Executrix. Or to go further back, that Conquest where we had GamGuards and the Rancor as bosses in S1. They were bugged (or overtuned, I can't remember which), and we were lucky enough that CG managed to fix it during the first few days. But the fact that it had been bugged at all, and in the very first sector. The enemy Levi stunning not one but two of your ships whenever it calls a reinforcement after having used its Ult ability.
        2. Lack of actual communication and reasoning on major changes. Just look at the AB fiasco. They start adding new ABs (DoF had at least been announced in the last Road Ahead, I think) and announce that the old ones would be gradually rotated out. The problem? The latter announcement was made two weeks AFTER the players noticed that there was something wrong. The recent fleet changes. P1 came out of nowhere, it turned out to be too strong, not only against Prof, but also against Levi. What did they do? They reworked Dagger and now Levi mirrors are a coin-flip dependent RNG fest where even if you go first you're at risk of timing out, P1 still does well against Levi. No news on whether there will be more changes or at least a post explaining why those specific changes were agreed on.
        3. Replacing old content with new events, therefore invalidating previous roster investment. What is happening with ABs is a very good example. Most of the old ABs have been around for years and are very useful for players of all stages - new, mid, late. Players have been and even now are gearing/relicing teams for those events. All of a sudden, we are told they are going to be gradually replaced with new ABs, namely ones that require the newest toons, have much stricter gear/relic requirements, have much higher RNG regarding what kind of rewards you get (compare the more static rewards from the old ABs with the one-or-the-other rewards in the new ones). The new raid system, you have raids that require you to relic up specific, and in many cases garbage, toons and use specific strategies, only for a new raid to show up not even a full year later and require a whole new set of toons. Look at the Lumi team for the Naboo raid, I doubt many people decided to take her to relic levels for reasons other than the raid.
        4. Constantly increasing requirements for events. RotE requires toons to be at least R5 just for the first wave and we go all the way up to R9. More and more JG toons require R5 minimum (Starkiller, Aphra, JJB, GI), some of them R7 minimum (Bo, Baylan). GL Ahsoka requires 3 R9s, multiple R7s and only 2-3 R5s, nothing below that. And even if you are at the minimum level, the event itself is so overtuned for that level that you have to go much further, which leads to the next issue.
        5. Too much RNG and overtuned enemies in events. The Naboo raid is a wonderful example. The enemies are massively OP in terms of stats and especially modifiers, the player modifiers are almost meaningless. You can get 1.2M in one run and barely half of that the next week with the same team forcing you to restart AT LEAST once more, which is especially annoying if it happens several minutes into the battle. You can be at 1/4 of the max score for a tier while the enemy team is at 70% enrage and keeps getting constant bonus turns with a DI DDK. With the Krayt raid, I could go in with mostly G10-11 Jawas and still get the max score for that tier, simply because the player bonuses were enough to balance things out. Right now, the bonuses in the Naboo raid are pathetic in anything below the R8-9 tiers. And I've seen complaints that even in those tiers, it's still a pain. To use the example you gave, with Lumi, yes that team does well in the raid, but it is very dependent on having both HoT and PotUp at the same time, and especially on your team counter attacking enough during that time. Yet, if for some reason they rarely counter attack or if the Command Droid keeps getting bonus turns and dispelling your entire team, you're in trouble. Another example is the Geonosis and to a lesser extent the Mustafar fleet missions in RotE.
        6. Massive time sink. Look at the weeks where you have TB, Conquest and Raids along with minor events like SR II, EE, UJ, etc., running all at the same time. Then factor in the RNG-induced multiple attempts, like with the Naboo raid.
        7. OP or bugged DCs. I for one like the idea behind DCs, boosting older and less used toons/teams to higher levels. It's the execution that leaves a lot to be desired. I don't even mind that some of the mechanics are incredibly strong. But every time something like that is released, the entire playerbase immediately starts putting it in GL teams, which are already strong enough by themselves. DCs like the ones for Padme and Holdo on GL teams, making DC bonuses specifically for GLs (Leia, JMK, Rey), or having ridiculously high stats like Evasion and Defense on GL teams. To say nothing about whether or not the DC is working properly. For example, the Inq DC a few months ago, the one with the Lv6 assist on Purge mechanic. The way it had been worded, it was supposed to call only one ally to assist at a time, yet every time I went up against an Inq team with that DC, the entire team basically started swarming me every time someone used an ability.
        8. Specifically designed first-run DCs. POW, GMs, Baylan, am I missing anyone else. The only way you can get those DCs is if you complete the event during the first run. And the only way you can do that is if you spend a massive amount of crystals or actual money to get the one toon to relics (POW and GMs) or to get several toons to relics so you can unlock the event and get the actual toon (Baylan). The latter case I can understand, but the marquee DC thing. Huge middle finger, especially with how ridiculously strong the Great Mothers DC is. I agree with what you said about being careful with your spending (I'm completely F2P btw) and not expecting every toon to be the "new apex predator", but I can also understand players being frustrated because of how the toon had been advertised or due to how high its requirements are (Baylan, for example, requires 5 R7 toons, with 4/5 of them being Marquee toons that were released 2-3 months ago, and 2 of them not even being node farmable yet).
        9. Constant lagging with some events or teams, plus long animations. One could argue the lagging falls under the category of bugs, but I'm putting it as a separate issue. Tuskens and Gungans (albeit not as hideous now as it was the initial weeks, for me at least), AA+VA disk combo in Conquest (I use an ability and suddenly the game freezes for at least 15 seconds until it resumes, heaven forbid I use LV's AoE). And the animations on most of the new toons take way too much time even on 4x speed. The enemy team itself may be annoying but still beatable, yet you end up timing out simply because of how much time is spent on the animations.

And those are just the ones that immediately come to mind.

  • I will defend where it is possible, but perhaps recent changes have not impacted the progress or investment you have made. I agree with the two main complaints at the moment, I have only ever been as frustrated by one previous issue to the extent I am with fleets at the moment.  Whilst introducing things to chase is good and I have been excited about GLAT. Erasing, nerfing or sunsetting progress in a game running for years is dangerous. It’s good players are complaining because when they stop they may just stop playing, that will be a much better bigger problem.

Those of us who have been around for a while know that whilst the game has not died with the amount of complaints in the past we have seen players retire, my guild had a rage quit due to punishing one. So when players talk about how much until we see an exodus, it’s not hyperbole, they are concerned how far will we be pushed. I asked myself this week why do I play when I have felt more negative than positive recently. I assume the forum is that playing out for multiple players, not ready to leave but not feeling good about playing at the moment.

Rapid progression of early game is to replace players who retired in the past. Before we recruiters were struggling to replace players leaving with equal size rosters as so many veteran players left impacting all sizes of guilds. Due to previous decisions they did not like. This varies, I like datacrons but they resulted in many leaving. I don’t mind higher relics but others dislike the push to more resources. My personal big dislike is my efforts being diluted by nerfs or having to re-invest for the same rewards, I like to see progress. But at the moment GAC MM, fleets, raid and now AB, result in no progress or reversing previous progress.

I've done the same over the past couple of weeks. There's a finite amount of 'feels bad' that I'm willing to deal with in a game that I play to feel less bad about everything else in the world.

I enjoy this game.  I’ve played it since shortly after it was brought out.  My only complaint is their inability to keep to a timeline for 1 event.  Otherwise…I’m a fan.

I'm not one of those who play for free and complain about not winning as much as the whales. But this game has serious shortcomings and It has been since its creation. Starwars. It's all in the title. The ships are almost non-existent. The RNG is a disaster. Clearly there are cached elements that prevent it from working properly. It's all or nothing. The revivals of the night sisters in GAC have always been a problem. And it continues. Profundity is expensive for a f2p. And with the Punishing One it is no longer good for anything. The result is still a huge disappointment. And finally. The jarjar event. I farmed as soon as it was possible. And the event is not even open anymore. It was supposed to be present every 3 months, obviously it was abandoned. Without explanation from CG. Never any explanation, it seems like they despise the players.  Finally, the pve content is not crazy, it is expensive for them, yes, but that is what makes a game good.

  • i started a thread called crybaby corner for players to vent. I was the first crybaby lol. but it doesn't look like it caught on
