Farming teams. ... future exhaustion

If I’m not mistaken, we only have certain spots where we can farm new toons. Hard nodes, Cantina nodes, Guild Event store, guild store, ship battle nodes... now I may be forgetting something.

This is going to be a huge problem when the Solo team drops. The Old Republic crew after that will be annoying as well.

Since the big Wicket plus NS drops, I’ve farmed Wicket, Mother Talzin and NS Zombie to 7 stars. Visas and Holdo are about 20/100 into 6-Star. Sion is like 25/85 in 5-star. I haven’t begun to farm Rose, and I’ll begin my Bossk farm once Visas is finished.

My heartfelt analysis here is that it’s exhausting. I haven’t spent crystals on cantina or mod refreshes since Wicket ... it’s kind of taken over my game.

When Phoenix was released, I thought the farming path for that team was perfect. Ezra and Hera were in cantina (plus Ezra had an occasional pop in ship store), Sabine was hard node only (plus Guild Store before she was mysteriously removed), Zeb was in GW store, Kanan was in Arena store and Chopper was in Cantina store... that was completely manageable! The whole team dropped and I *almost* finished them in time for the Thrawn event (oddly enough, it was Zeb in GW that fell short of 7-stars)... but it was a team that was released together that was collectively a pretty manageable farm.

Sure, Ezra and Hera conflicted with each other and Sabine was eventually hard node only... but what are the options for the Solo team?

Hard nodes? That’s potentially SEVEN hard node farms. Which is completely unmanageable... and I’ve almost finished 5 hard node toons since Wicket and crew came out. So I’m pretty quick on that...

Guid Store? Best place for gear.

Guild Event Store? Now I’m done with the Hoda/Wampa farms finally, but if there’s a new TB, we’ll have a new toon that costs 90k GECs ... but I’m actually looking forward to buying some gear from there (finally!).

Cantina nodes? I’m lukewarm here, but 1-2 toons would be better than other alternatives. But it’s tough to balance refreshing there when all my resources are already going to hard nodes. Plus one day, I’d like to focus on mods.

Ship battle nodes? I’m fine with that. I guess.

But my point is that it’s pretty nice to have 7 toons come to the game... when arena store, Cantina store and GW store are on the table. It gives us choices and lets us farm a team without killing every resource we have.

Again, I’m fine with things now... but the Solo team is going to be REALLY, really hard to build when I’m still working on those other toons. And I’m sure I’m not alone there.

  • Honestly, I think CG is executing their exit strategy with this game... was it intentional? Doubtful... but it's likely gonna happen either way.

They've become so $$ focused with each addition of content, they forgot they need a happy player-base that spends money (Which I recently stopped doing all together because of terrible decisions like this, the STR raid, ship updates that I don't personally care about but other paying customers do & the last gasoline thrown on the dumpster fire... mod updates).
  • Fleet hard nodes are definitely gonna become nodes for shard farming. I think it's disgraceful having to farm a toon from a single hard node a day. They really really find the worst and money grabbingest way to make this game

Well for the Solo team, the answer appears to be "nothing". But for the KOTOR team that answer seems obvious, which is why people are worried about it now.

OP has a point. I brought this up with my guild yesterday. Between MT, Sion, Visas, and now Bossk farming in LS/DS battles is become exhausting.....and now you have solo and old republic chars :(

Everyone keeps talking about Solo, but aside from Nest who do you want? I know we need them for TB but that is the only purpose they serve.

Well... not to pick a bone with you specifically. But right now there’s NO use for the Solo squad.

    That could change instantly, though.

Legendary character with Solo squad requirements?
SM or CM in future TB with Solo requirements?
    Generic event with Solo requirement?

We have no clue right now, so it’s tough to say. I doubt they’ll ever be essential, but generally speaking full team requirements are common. BH come to mind. I can’t think of a more useless faction, but they’re needed if you want to max DSTB stars.

You aren't meant to farm them all..... Pick a direction and go with it..... It's really not that complicated....

Forgive me but this is an obtuse answer -- in the context of the whole game, no you are not meant to farm every toon at once -- but that isn't what the OP is pointing out.

In the context of the Solo toons, which were designed as a cohesive synergistic team -- you quite clearly DO need all of those toons to really bring that whole team to its potential. For the incoming KOTOR team and LS Revan (who I speculate will ultimately be the locus of that team) you will also need all of the toons to really make the best use of it.

Why? Because the toons were designed to function together -- just like Phoenix was. Farming just Young Lando for example, will probably be deadweight in terms of utility until you have finished the other members of the team. It doesn't make sense to jam all of the solo toons into farming locations that compete with themselves, because it drastically reduces the incentive to farm one by hooking the benefit of farming the character to a competing farm.

It's a very different value judgment if I look at my options and say "I can farm Sion on this hard fleet node and use him on any Sith team" or I say "I can farm L3 and Lando on two different fleet nodes, which will take me twice as long / twice as many resources, and I won't be able to use either of them efficiently until both are finished". I'm probably not going to pick the longer more expensive farm to do that.

The way the Phoenix farm was structured was very smart, I could farm the entire team concurrently if I wanted. I could also farm them one at a time if that was more prudent to me. What the OP is pointing out is that if you take Arena/GW/Cantina/Fleet stores off the table, then structuring the Solo team or KOTOR team in the same way becomes very prohibitive and doesn't make much sense.

I don't know what CG is planning to do with the two new teams farming-wise, but if they put three toons on a single hard node, two on a single fleet node, and one on a cantina node (as slicing is introduced), I can't help but feel that's a pretty bad mistake in terms of engagement.

I understand the apprehension and agree that Phoenix was released really well. It just feels like this thread is addressing something that isn't an issue. No other synergistic team, as similar to phoenix, have been released in a farming location. So where's the data point that CG is putting synergistic teams in competing locations? I think we broach that when it happens.

Well the data point is speculatory based on what we've been told. It's more like, we can look at the Solo toons (Qi'Ram VChewie, YHan, YLando, L3, Range Trooper, Enfys) and say "Where are these seven characters going to go?"

We know they have to go somewhere, and since we've been explicitly told that they won't go to GW/Cantina Store/Arena/Fleet that leaves a pretty limited number of release vectors.

Guild Shop, GET Shop, Cantina node, Hard node, Fleet hard node

The last characters added to Guild were SFTIE and SFTFP
The last character added to GET shop was Wampa, but he was exclusive - no general rotation characters have gone in to that shop since DSTB went live in Novemeber

For some reason, it feels to me that the Guild shop / GET shop aren't really in the running for farm locations right now either. I think other people are feeling similarly so the fear is that all of these new toons are gonna land on node farms (Cantina, Fleet, Hard)

And people are worried that's going to be taxing - a step too far in our patience. I think players could have accepted it for the five preparation toons -- because most see no utility or need for that team and the kits are too convoluted to easily understand. With KOTOR coming though, people speculatively understand that they are going to need the whole team, and fear that we will be pushed to farm the entire team concurrently (or nearly concurrently) in order to get Revan.

So unless CG backs down on the no new toons in GW/Can/Arena/Fleet thing, people are right to be concerned. They've given us enough information to understand that the "worst" case is pretty likely.
  • I fear this game is becoming so $$$ oriented, that at one point CG will tax every click of each button! :/

Ok... you got me. I’m talking about Solo simply because they’re next. But! I’m REALLY worried about Revan. I see the colossal money grab on the horizon.

With Solo, I’ll probably get Nest super fast, but casually farm the next over the next year or so. Maybe refresh for Young Solo because he seems promising. But really, it’s an unnecessary team unless something changes.

Old Republic though?! That’s a different story.

Now here is where I constructively and completely disagree with you... I can farm the following factions with ease from multiple sources simultaneously:

    1. Rebels... 2. Empire... 3. Resistance... 4. First Order... 5. Nightsisters... 6. Phoenix... 7. Rogue One.... 8. Jedi... 9. Imperial Troopers... 10. Scoundrels... etc

If the Solo team would go to Hard nodes, Cantina and Ship Battles, they’d be the hardest team to farm in the game. And Old Republic would be right behind them.
  • Isn't it about time for Google to reward Android users again ? 7* Revan would be perfect.
