Finish stage 5 and fight another battle?

So when we finish off the boss in stage 5, we don’t get some fancy (or even very ordinary) data disk, but we have to fight another (rather ordinary) battle? Is this what it’s supposed to be?

Why don't you just spend 1 minute checking out that last node and what it's about? Too much to ask for I guess.
