I'm in Kyber 2, so if I lose my battle by two banners or a thousand, I still get 200 crystals. In the past, I would have incentive to attack even if I knew I was going to lose because the banners counted toward reward levels. Now, if I see I can't win, there's no point. Something like this for Kyber 2:
200 crystals for participating
10 crystals per squad defeated
400 additional crystals for winning
Would keep the reward structure intact but reward attacking even when you can't win. It'd shift a few crystals from winners to losers, but I'm good with that.
Another alternative: instead of having reward for rank 1, ranks 2-4, ranks 5-7 and rank 8, have the final rank account for total banners and reward each level 1-8 separately.
This would create another set of issues.
That would punish you if your opponent set a super strong defense and you are still able to win. Either you (both) would get a lot less crystals compared to current system.
It would essentially promote weak defense/full offense play as win or loose, there’s an incentive to keep enough for a full clear.
