G13 trap! Be careful.

Hey y’all. I wanted to warn every one so they don’t fall into the same problem I did. I finally got enough gear for another G13. Stoked, right?! So I crafted the gear on a different character, thinking I would stash it for later. The gear had the same name, same sub-gear to craft it, but was NOT interchangeable. Check it out- here’s an example- sith trooper and STH have the exact same gear 13 piece, same name, same crafting recipe. But they are not interchangeable!!! So now, I am stuck with this G13 piece I can’t use on the character I want.very frustrating.

They did it to stop rampant pre-crafting. If an early game whale had 2/3 g12 toons they could theoretically splurge on g12 finisher pieces so they have them all lined up for when they get other toons to g12.

In the very early days of the game pre-crafting of some gear pieces was a problem. This is one of the ways of preventing it.

You’re just speculating. No way they’re trying to prevent whales from whaling. If any reasoning is real it’s to pads their pockets more up front, and ultimately long term.

I think u can still select the equipped gear and craft the required piece so it doesnt stop anything?

Do you guys really not notice the fact that every single g12 finisher piece is different? They’ve also stated this fact many times before. It’s not a trap, it’s just you seriously screwing up and not reading..

Hey, I actually never saw that, would you mind helping me out and giving me a link?

Here it is very clearly spelled out.
  • So OP is wrong. Its not a trap its working as designed and as advertised. People should at least read the release notes.
  • It's pretty obviously stated that each finisher piece is unique to each character and once crafted can only be applied to that character.
  • I can see folks looking at the finishers and finding one they feel is better than others but uses the game materials. So they make hoping to slot it on Someone else.

Even though it was stated by devs and it’s been typed all over the forum, it is the first time this game has had unique gear. So I’m not surprised it is catching a few players off guard.

I don't really understand the rationale of having 2 or more gear pieces which have the same exact name and are crafted with the exact same components, yet which are unique to the character on whom they were crafted. It would make sense if you could un-equip gear, but that's not the case here. If they wanted to make the g13 pieces feel exclusive or personalized to that character, then they should have made them visually differentiable somehow. I just don't get the point of doing it this way.

This ^. They could have just given the relevant unique stats per toon once the G12 > G13 upgrade button is pushed, and allowed the gear piece to be identical across the board, or at least a few variations at most. CG is brilliant with their tactics, you gotta give them that, but they could have done the same thing in a manner that was more friendly.

It’s because the resultant gear piece from combining all the components is different and the stats unique for each toon, so they can’t make the combined resultant gear piece the same across the board. It isn’t that hard to understand. Same components to make but the resultant gear piece is unique to give each character the specific boosts they tailored for each of them
  • Just farm the salvage and don't craft anything. This is how you should approach all gear.

The old "precrafting" scandal was because certain common pieces used to require fewer mats to make. Some people were able to craft dozens of pieces before they became more expensive, which created a huge disparity between them and newer players or those who don't read info outside the game.

Crafting a G12 finisher ahead of time wouldn't give you any advantage if they worked on multiple characters unless they later made them even more crazy expensive than they already are.
