GAC Matchmaking

I'm a competitive GAC player. But I'm starting to feel a massive burnout in kyber 3. I've purposely lost to drop to aur 1. But then I won every match that season and got thrown back into K3 again. So it was a waste of time.

Right now, I'm at the stage where it's just super unfair. I'm 12.9 mill gp practically F2P, but every match I'm vsing is like an extreme uphill battle. My avg opponent is above 14.3 mill gp and has every toon (even all the new recent characters) in the game, more relic 9s than I have relic 8s. I'm not sure what CG wants me to do in these scenarios except just take the loss at this point. This is supposed to be a game to have fun, but it's not fun when ur just being extremely outmatched and always playing like your fight for your life every round, and 1 slip up will cost you to not full clear or lose due to points.

Please, CG fix the matchmaking and make it fairer. My last 3 opponents were over 15 mill gp, does that seem like an even matchup to y'all?

  • You think Aur is fun?  There’s more 19 mil accounts here than in Kyber.  I’m matched with people with R10, full datacrons and 6* mods.  I’ve lost almost every match in 3v3 and gone from Aur 2 to Aur 5 within this last week.  CG needs to clear all scores every year and everyone fight yearly like a real tournament.  Not this crap they’ve been running for years

  • I find this a very strange post.  We're pretty much in the same boat (I'm 700k more than you and currently bouncing between K2/K3 with the current squish).  I don't really understand your outlook at all.  I find GP has very little relevance (if any) on if we win at this level.  In fact, I'm probably more worried about people with a lower GP as they're probably more try-hard and savvy than the bigger accounts.

At this level, there's so much GP that isn't used, we all have the tools to deal with competitive matches.  How much GP isn't used now for Kyber GAC?  Half?  So how a couple of million GP relevant in match making?

The biggest issue though, is if we matched by GP, it'd affect absolutely everything in SWGOH.  There'd be no more getting everything you can, because you simply wouldn't use it. If GAC is important to us, why would we continue with these accounts?  Just start a new one, build a 2.5 million team and stop and dominate.  Having to watch the weight is a horrible way to play a collectable game.  Although I'd do pretty well in a GP matched GAC, if they did it (which they won't, it prevents spending) I'd quit on the day.

What more proof do we need that the system does work in high/mid Kyber?  You've tried to artificially manipulate the system and it's said "Nope!  Get back to you where you belong!"

    Ri5ing_Ph0enix wrote:

Well you won a few easy matches, which I guess is what you wanted.  I wonder though, why you thought it would go any differently?  If you're in K3 you're in K3 for a reason.  That's your competitive level and where you belong.  You're clearly unhappy with your win percentage.  However, which ever division/league you're in, it's not going to change a great deal.  We all win a within a percentage (60ish-40ish) over a long period.  Wherever, you are that's not going to change over a long period.

    Ri5ing_Ph0enix wrote:

No, it's not.  You're winning the same amount of games that everybody else is winning.  You're in a division that is 'quite' (not very) high for a 13 mil gp player and getting rewarded for it.  Remember, the higher the league/division the better the rewards.

Relic Deltas of 1 or 2 make very little difference, particularly to counters.

What's the issue?  If it's too much you drop down to Kyber 4 and be playing vs people with similar sized rosters to you.  However, clearly the scenario isn't you just take the loss though.

    Ri5ing_Ph0enix wrote:

Probably, yes.  To my mousey eyes anyway.  Those 15 mil gp peoploreenos are there for a reason.  They're not competitive in K1/K2 or they're not as engaged.  Either way, your chances of winning are within the win percent parameters or.....you'll drop to K4; it's that simple.

    Ri5ing_Ph0enix wrote:

I can see that, and sympathise.  I'm feeling it too, especially in 3v3 which I'm really not enjoying any more.  What I don't understand though, is your PoV.  I find it very strange for a 13 million GP player to feel this way.  I mean, unless you've grown your account incredibly quickly, you've been in this position for quite some time.  You get the latest legend or conquest character here and nothing changes, because everybody else has them too!

My feeling is that you're finding it hard accepting a 40-60% win percentage.  You feel that if you played vs players of the same GP, you'd win a lot more.  That might be the case, but winning nearly all your games, is that fair compared to winning half your games?  To me, no.  Also, if you got your wish and we did have a gp match making system, you wouldn't win nearly as much as you'd think.  Better players would game the system and have 'lean' rosters.  If you listen to one thing listen to this:  GP match making for GAC would be miserable...not just the GAC but the whole game.  Right now we can eat the dark chocolate gateaux and drink the rich tasting calorie high Belgian beer.  However, you make GP the over-riding match making factor... we're all permanently on the lettuce and water.

Well losing a few on the bounce (I'll say 3+) is very demoralising.  I think it takes a human with much better than average stoutness to take that on the chin without feeling something is up.  2 contributing factors.  1.  The squish is high Kyber is broken again and CG aren't fixing/don't know how to fix/don't realise it's happening.  Until it's fixed, everybody in the game will continue to drop.  2.  I'm feeling the disconnect between 5v5 and 3v3 is quite large at the moment.  We had a very defensive meta and it's still lingering.  Also a lot of the new stuff is very good in 3v3.  Clearing in 3v3 (feels to me) substantially harder than 5v5.  So, I feel that there's an unsettled period in rankings when we change from one to the other, at the moment.

If they do it, I'm gone.  My morale for the game is too low from all the other rubbish to withstand a GP reset.  That said, it'll affect spending, so I'm not worried.

I'll say it again, and I've yet to see any argument against it.  What we do need is an Activity Score.

"Each player is given an activity score, that doesn't affect rewards in any way.  The max Activity Score is +10 and the minimum is -10.  Players are matched on Skill Points (as they are now).  However, instead of playing the nearest 7 players to them, there is a secondary matching system which is the Activity Score.  Players play players with the same Activity Score, rather than the nearest 7 on the table.

If you score 0-10 points in a GAC with 0-1 attempts you score -2 AS points.

If you battle more than once, but not more than teams deployed in 1 zone (or 2 battles in total for leagues with only 1 team defence zones) you score -1 AS points.

If you battle up to the amount of teams for 2 zones (3 battles for 1 defence zone leagues) you score 0 AS points.

If you battle up to the amount of teams deployed for 3 zones (4 battles for 1 defence zone leagues) you score 1 AS point.

If you battle as many times as there are defensive teams (or 5+ battles/full clear for 1 defence zone leagues) you score 2 AS points.

As stated earlier +10 and -10 are the max/min scores, so once you hit these numbers you hit a ceiling/floor until you start to lose/gain AS points."

  • This is interesting…K3 is tough because theoretical K 1 and 2 players were feeling burnt out and didn’t put in enough effort to stay where they were :)

This post - and the replies - do a good job underlining that it is not only GP but also effort or the amount of time someone is willing to invest that dictates our GAC results. If you want to climb (or maintain your rank) you need to spend time staying on top of counters, building out the new teams, and of course invest in datacrons.

Just to be clear, the original idea (that I saw) was from Egnard.  His was a little bit more basic and used with other factors.  So, it's not my invention, just my interpretation.

Why would making GAC tournaments 365 days long and reset like a yearly Rugby or Soccer Tournament make you quit?  It would be more realistic and stop a lot of griping. The ongoing system they have in place is not a tournament in any way and their bracketing is crap. Squish is real and we all know it and feel it.  CG needs to deal with the monster they created which before this game I had never heard of squish or seen a returning player in the top bracket.  Please name another pvp game with this issue.  I honestly can’t think of any.

Are you talking about this universe? Top player by the gp is 18M. 6* mods are not something amazing, you suppose to farm mods all the time on every useful character. Datacrons are free, you can farm them through conquest, that is not something amazing to have 8 full dcs. A lot of accounts that are around 6m gp have probably 1-3 r10 cause they care more abt that rather than unlocking new characters. If it is so hard for you then you should be happy cause u would not have any fun in kyber. Im curious if it is rooster diff or skill diff, would love to have your ally code to check mods but kinda scared it might be the skill diff.

I'm not playing GAC with any form of GP match making, period.  With the changes in the last 6 months and where the game is heading, my morale is very low.  Something this large would easily be enough.

GP is a very poor form of match making and totally unnecessary.  There's no reason to reset by it.  However, it's not really the GAC side of things that would ruin the game for me.  It's everything else, if we have a GP match-maker of any form, then we'll be encouraged to min-max.  I dislike min-maxing and won't go back to scrimping on this and that, not putting mods on this guy etc.

If a reset you mean just puts us back in the league or division we were in, how is that competitive?  I started new GAC in A3, it was far too weak for me, I don't want to go back there, especially with Aurodium rewards.  What about the new whales that fast track to Kyber with a large wallet?

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

Rugby and football leagues are on a ladder (here anyway) and are not reset.  If you have a enough teams (players for us) the ladder works much better than the American system of sports conferences.  However, with them they have systems to equalise teams (drafts), which we will never have.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

I disagree it will be more realistic. All the top football (soccer) nations play on a ladder, so how'd it be more realistic?  Also, it wouldn't stop the griping.  There'd be new griping and the old griping.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

It's a ladder/league system.  Tournaments (e.g. cups) are a smaller part of team sports.  The majority of play is in a league.  The Champions League (the biggest football club tournament) was bracketed before last season.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

    their bracketing is crap.

An Activity Score fixes most of those problems.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

Only when they get the formula wrong, like at the moment.  Otherwise in Aurodium it's neither a positive or a negative thing.  When they fix the formula it'll be positive for a while.

I kind of do agree though that there's an issue with the squish.  In that it pushes players too far.  You can be in say....K4, lost your last game, go down to the top of K5.  Then get demoted to Aurodium, but also get a negative squish pushing you down to A2.  So, you basically have a K4 standard player in A2.  This is causing a washing machine effect.  Players continually recycling at the top and bottom of leagues.  That should change, but it would mean changing the hard-wall league changes and the squish.  I don't think they can be bothered with it.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

I had never heard of squish

It's in several ladder systems as a reset, particularly to prevent the top players winning themselves out of matches.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

or seen a returning player in the top bracket.

I believe they sort of admitted they didn't know why this was happening.  I agree, fixing it should be a priority.  Especially as it's affecting some very big whales.  It's very frustrating for both sides of the gaming board.

    CommanderBarcara wrote:

Please name another pvp game with this issue.

What issue?  Squish, match-making, the players placed in the top of Kyber?

Many games have squish.  The players that shouldn't be at the top of Kyber is a bug.  I get the feeling fixing it is too much money for them, but if it means their whales stop spending....is it too much money to investigate it?   I believe there's always been issues with the coding of this game, and we keep seeing it.

Look, there does need to be changes.  Players getting drawn against a large account that is rarely active isn't right, it needs fixing.  However, the OPs problem where they're unhappy with where they have climbed to..........I have no sympathy.  That's the system working perfectly fine.  I'm almost in the exact same boat as them and it most definitely isn't an issue.  I find it a very odd complaint.

    1. Have an activity score and players no longer have to worry about those big accounts that rarely play.
    2. Changes in Leagues/Divisions should be dealt the exact same way.  No more big changes at the end of the season and less need for as much squish.
    3.  In my opinion 3v3 and 5v5 need to be split.  There feels too much difference in power when transitioning between the 2.
    4.  Protect those new players.  New players enter a league just for them, where players cannot fall to.

These changes perfectly fix GAC in my opinion and totally avoids using GP.
