Galactic War is Broken and Why You Should be Glad

So since the new Galactic War has come out I've heard a lot of complaints, and of course it was changed because before that there were a lot of complaints. Now it's too easy and before that it was too hard. Well, for some it was too hard while for others it was too long and monotonous. And before that there was some other issue with protection, and before that was matching issue, and… The point is, there was a time long ago where it was my favorite part and a lot of other people liked it too, but between then and now it's been a mess. And the truth is now it's broken, it isn't the long battle--or "galactic war"--it once was. If you take your GW team in these days it's boring at best. But here's the thing, it's because you're doing it wrong. No really, you are--well that or you've invested far too much into this game but we'll get to that.
Now yes, they broke Galactic War but if you've been here long enough you might remember we asked for this. And they gave us what we asked for and it's even better than what we asked for. I know, I know. You're struggling to remember when you asked for more chores in game so full of chores but it's because we liked Galactic War back then and what we were asking for wasn't a replacement to it just something that was missing altogether. Dark and Light Side Battles were the vanilla aspect of the game, Cantina Battles were a sort of expansion or special edition, Arena was the competitive aspect, and Daily Challenges supplemented our needs. But Galactic War, Galactic War! was the event of it's time. There was a series of battles; there were credits, and crystals, and more for prizes; and there were differing challenges as the teams were random but built by individuals. It was great and the reason I played. But let's be real, all that good stuff is available in events and raids now and in those places it's better. Galactic War has become a poor man's version of an event with jokes for prizes.
But I said we asked for this and I haven't explained. So here it is, what we asked for: A place to practice new team combinations, a place that doesn't cost energy or crystals to play, where one can do more than a handful of battles a day, where it's not about timing wins or worrying about a pay out, where it's not about having the best team. A place to just play the game and have fun.
You know what I did the other day?--you know what I did?!?!?! I took sith team in against a team of jedi. And I lead with Maul--Darth "Slow as Snail" Maul himself! And another time, another time, I took in a Poe lead team just to try out my brand new level fiftysomething 5-Star Rey. And you know what?, the hype is real. And of course you know, but you know what else? Now. I. know. too.
This is what Galactic War is now. Even if you have 90% of the available characters in your roster and maxed out you should be able to have some fun. Have Ahsoka lead Sky Guy, Barriss, Ventress, and--don't know--Rex? on a Clone War adventure. Or take Vader, Luke, Leia, Han, and Kylo out for some family fun time. Heck, bring out those Jawas from last November and see what they can do with JE and an IG-88 lead. Speaking of IG-88, he's a Bounty Hunter if you want him to be! Take him in with Greedo and Boba Fett, and you know what? you can stop right there--you don't even have to take 5 in. You can just play. Seriously, Galactic War is what we've always wanted. Twelve battles for fun and some prizes; you just have to have fun with it.

  • This is exactly what I use it for. It's a way for you to decide if that character you unlocked works well. You also get, in my opinion decent rewards as well. Yes you get 1 shard and a handful of training droids and ability mats. You also get a decent amount of credits. Not bad for a training session.
  • Thanks for the post. I think this is how I will try to look at the GW now and try to enjoy it because I actually cannot finish it anymore. The last two enemy squads somehow seem to play perfectly to defeat any number (2-7) of squads I have left to throw at them. It's quite incredible and frustrating and i'm not sure what other strategy to use.
