Experienced this myself, like alot of other people. What helped the most was:
1. Raising gear/level of toons other than my top 5 (GW difficult is based on your top 5 power).
2. Use the first few nodes to load turn meter on some of your good toons and then save these toons for the last node. Ex: i load palp to +50% turn meter ensuring he goes ahead of the opponents (regardless of their speed) and then AOE stun off the bat on the last node.
Number 2 can be done immediately while 1 will make your life much easier in the long run
