Gaming or Gambling

I absolutely enjoy the game and yes I purchase things to get a leg up to stay competitive.  However I have yet to receive anything but the bottom of the barrel shards relic gear etc.  it should be currency for x amount of shard instead of %’s if you want to increase Chrystal cost or whatever to make sure we receive more of what we need but the grind is way to long and is rapidly causing burnout. Time money investment not to mention love of the saga keeps me playing but the roulette of chromium packs and never get toons you need only replicas of what a game of this caliber should know what is or isn’t 7*  and another thing as soon as a strategy is figured out by the next update it’s no longer a working strategy.  Relic 9 requirements when you only can earn like two droid brains every month seems like you really have to over spend or dedicate your life to play a game you enjoy. I understand profits but there should be a price and get what you pay for none of the chances for 7-330 for same amount of crystals 10$ us each time you attempt then have to wait month to farm. I just think you guys at cg could make your money and the game more easy flowing than a frustrating year long grind to even get to a GL or journey ship .  I hope I’m not the only one who feels this way. And the energy spent , rng knows what you are looking for  and it seems your kept from obtaining what is needed for overflow to trade for low tier relic requirements. Maybe consider lessening the grind to keep you true fans of the game from reaching burn out. It is a wonderful product but it has flaws. Hope you’ll listen to the people who help your game reach it’s popularity and profits goals.  I hope to see some corrections in the future I know not all of these will but if one or two make it I will be happy.  Y’all work hard and I do enjoy your product but maybe think of us and help us a little bit.

  • Paragraphs would make this easier to read.

The “gambling” debate has been played out many times on the old forum. The biggest issue seems to be the difference between what players think the definition of gambling is versus the actual legal definition of what gambling is.

If getting the worst possible outcome from a real money or crystal purchase would be unpalatable for a player, they shouldn’t make the purchase.

  • EA and Star Wars are not new to this idea of letting players gamble with their money for in-game purchases. In reference to that linked article it was "resolved" when they included the odds of each prize. Companies get away with it for two reasons; 1) people are willing to pay for it, and 2) governments aren't really doing anything to prevent it (especially in America). When people complain about the price of something they purchase I like to tell them "you can't complain because the price wasn't so high that you refused to pay the price".

Again, “gambling” is debatable in the cases the OP raised, as in all cases there is no possibility of the purchaser getting nothing in return. The legal definition of “gambling”, certainly where I live, requires at least some prospect that your stake could be lost completely with no return.

Pack-purchasers may not want to receive the less-desirable of the possible outcomes, and may consider those outcomes a rip-off, but as you and I have both pointed out someone should decide if they are prepared to pay the price to get the least desirable outcome. If the answers is “no”, they shouldn’t be buying the pack.

But it is gambling by pretty much all definitions and standards. That is also the reason why those deals, OP is referring to, are simply not offered in many countries, where gambling is prohibited.

  • I agree with the OP on this I think the packs are way overpriced and often don't give any value for money with the odd exceptions being the lightspeed bundles they have been doing recently - which might I add have been going up in price each time they release.
That said, people have a choice to pay or not. Don't like it don't pay it.
That brings me to my point on this though - If people stopped paying the prices the game would die. Rather than the devs taking a step back to think hang on, perhaps we need to lower our prices here OR at least make it guaranteed drops with some logic that already 7* characters are excluded. Instead they'll just say the games dead, there's no appetite for it anymore and would give up.

That would be real sad and far from the truth! Despite it's flaws, this game has an awesome community and is hands down the only Star Wars game worth playing imo. Just a shame the greed ruins it.

I'd personally spend a lot more if the price to reward were fairer. Example being I snapped up the lightspeed bundles every time they dropped and the £5 Kyro packs (which are now £6 I've noticed!) Good value and I buy every time. It doesn't break my bank and I feel I've been getting something for my money. But, I won't touch anything else that is a chance to drop, not for me that. On the odd time I have dabbled over the 7 yrs I've played, I have always gotten the rock bottom reward. Well, I work hard for my money and won't waste it on chance. Maybe if CG realised that probably 98% of it's global player base viewed things the same way, they'd potentially make a killing but they won't and as a result, we all lose.
