But why GET is the problem? As far as I have seen, with GET2 I can buy some gear (and not-so-special characters like Phoenix), so nothing too special. What did I miss?

Basically any method of gating characters will get folks shouting about it on these forums.
That's a fair statement. My whole issue with CG isn't necessarily using GET for characters, it's using GET for characters that I completed a difficult event to be awarded a paper weight and the "right" to be able to farm them to a usable level.
I'd have to do the math, but as long as it's only 1 or 2 a year I think I'll survive and just continue to be annoyed with it in the short term.
For me personally, I probably need another 60k of GET for GAS, and now I feel compelled to hoard an additional 70k for the next character before I can start gearing up characters again using GET. That's 130k GET, ehhhh.
As far as GET2, I don't think I'll ever be able to use that for gear with the new Capital Ship coming.
