Didn't get a chance to post in the original thread, but congrats to EASB for world-first Han.
So much millennial but-hurt it's funny.
Sure, it was an exploit of sorts, but one that was discovered by players and within the framework set by CG. It's not cheating, it's a clever work-around to the established rules. I mean, when Nae was stock-piling energy so he could be the first to level 70 back in the day, where was the out-cry then? Was he cheating? Imo, he (if it was Nae, my memory may not be accurate, but it was a TI member) figured out an ingenious way to circumvent the energy cap. Was it his fault that CG overlooked this? No. It's up to CG to test their model to make sure there are no flaws to the system they set up. They make the rules, we just follow them or look for ways around them. It's part of gaming, it's part of min/maxing, it's part of life.
For the old-timers out there, I will give an example from Everquest. Remember when Sleeper was supposed to be unbeatable? How he would just insta-killed everybody? Remember when Conquest figured out how to hide the priests under the bridge so they were out on line of site and just rezzing everybody to zerg Sleeper and kill him? Did the Everquest community at the time shame them for it? No, we celebrated their clever work-around of the system.
Now? People want to take away EASB's achievement. If guild-hopping wasn't possible, we would be celebrating the "legit" way, which would only mean a race to see who could finish off T7s the fastest.....is that actually a better achievement? Because you were able to log in on your final kill 15 minutes before the next guild? Because your guild happened to start it's first T7 before the others did? *golf clap*
So much this. Anyone who designs software knows that you've never accounted for all possibilities, or cultural differences (anyone for a bit of Hofstede?) and that your users will test things in ways you didn't anticipate. Not only that, the designers know the difference between an exploit and an unexpected consequence because it's their software. Like it, lump it, ragequit or just keep grinding, 'fair' is subjective. That's gaming, play or move along.
