I really wouldn't count on the shard shop character being f2p
I have Unduli at 7* and the shard shop open, I plan to farm extra shards from gw shipments and hard nodes for her so I can trade them, I get what you saying though being f2p is going to make it a long haul. I only managed to do the first two Yoda stages, because I couldn't farm enough, next time round I should be able to do two more.
