Part of strategy can be to go flat out very early, and putting as much pressure on your opponent, and try to force mistakes - I typically aim for that - but if I fail a match or two, my opponent suddenly have an advantage.
But if I fail to clear a zone (god forbid) he has a massive advantage for planning his attacks better, and that may be the heaviest argument for hiding the scores.
Ideally you should just fight as late as possible. It will put pressure on the opponent, and also reduced the advantage from knowing scores as much as possible. But not everybody lives a life, where waiting until the last minute is possible.
There really isn't one right answer to this I think.
