I am actually beginning to like the Coliseum
I know, I know, it makes me a CG shill and traitor of players and all that...
I only ever spent crystals for the era stuff, and I have both new characters at level 27-28. So far, it seems that the feedback loop of attempts, rewards and upgrades is going reasonably well since they (mostly) solved the 1 damage issue, and any hiccups can be smoothed over with relatively low amounts of crystals. It lets me gradually progress and improve each day, which is something I didn't even know I was missing in this game - in most other areas, the progress happens in larger steps separated by a long time. Of course, it is still possible that we will hit a hard wall somewhere down the line, which is something CG should try to avoid if they want any positivity regarding this feature.
Of course, while the basic concept seems to be working, there are still problematic areas.
- We get very little Era level currency, so the loop needs to be constantly fed with crystals. It is manageable so far, but it might become unsustainable as the numbers get higher and more characters need to be upgraded.
- The summons are based on the weakest character (?) and we get fewer as we progress through tiers, which means that we might end up stuck with either undersized team or useless summons. That could keep us from getting higher score and break the entire loop.
- The battles, at least at this level, are very luck-based. There is a huge difference in scores depending on which abilities the enemies choose to use.
