This isn't really any different than the 7* toon requirements found in DS TB platoons. Talzin, Zombie, Spirit, these are highly controlled releases. You either paid or you wait. 2 years.
The game has shifted from factions to specifics and it all comes in panic fashion.
If you feel so strongly about the system write a letter to Chris Lee that highlights EA's "predatory behavior" with the Star Wars license beyond BF2.
