I finally found the words for why I hate Relic Delta so much
I've been discussing this on Reddit, with guild mates, and in the comments on the YouTube channels of our favorite creators. But I just wrote this (or something very similar) as a reply to someone on my own Reddit post in the SWGOH sub. I wanted to share it here. The main point is in the last paragraph.
I disagree that this system would be for the greater good. The vast majority of the community has discussed to death why this system is not for the greater good.
I welcome progress in the game. I welcome more ways to make it more balanced. I want the game to continue to evolve. That's why I'm opposed to this system.
This system would remove strategy and make the game purely a gear check. Mods would be negated. Strategy would be negated. DCs would largely be negated. All things that we've been instructed to invest in, either directly or through tweaks to the game to prioritize those things.
The biggest abandonment with this update, for me, is the fact that there would no longer be an advantage to prioritizing the new characters. With the introduction of LSBs as a mechanism for newer players to 'catch up,' the writing on the wall and messaging from CG for the last nearly two years now has ALL been that we need to prioritize the new characters to do well and get ahead. I have embraced that. Now that investment is being thrown out the window unless I have a glut of relic mats to get them all to R7+ as quickly as possible. Well, I don't. No one does. So that's not going to happen. That's where my trust has been broken. I changed the way I played the game and the way I prioritized building my roster to fit a game play style that CG themselves dictated. And now that rug is being pulled out. That's why people are pissed off.
I want to add this thought. In order for 'Relic Delta' to be palatable to most of the player base, its impact would need to be reduced to the point that it might as well not be implemented at all.
I'm talking 5% per relic level of difference in added damage, and half of that for damage reduction. Even better, only implement it if there's a 3 relic level difference or greater. 1-2 relic level difference, let them fight. 3 relic levels? Give 'em a li'l boost.
If there's something specific that CG is trying to solve for (which still has not been communicated to us), there has to be a better, more meaningful, more balanced way to implement this, no?
It just kills the strategy. And it deprioritizes toons that are already (and reasonably) overpowered, like conquest characters and GLs.
Anyway, as many others have said before me, I'm not spending another dime unless this goes away. And I don't want to say goodbye to the game, but I won't play it anymore if it's no longer based on strategy. End of story.
