No, the OP is right on this one. While Luminara and Plo have similar looking lightsabers they are not the exact same. The relic images make them appear so. And Aayla's relic lightsaber doesn't really even look like hers.
I , too, was pretty excited for the possibilities relics offered when they were just an idea and feel let down with the ho hum implementation. Oh well.
I'm more surprised they didn't figure out a way to add "RNG" into leveling up these relics. It's literally all set and locked in. Granted, there is no logical progression or structure to "value" of pieces, as if they used RNG to decide what would be worth 500 and what would be worth 6, but I doubt even they know for sure. lol
