I don’t know if f2p is dying - certain feels that way in some respects - but I can say for sure that the game just somehow seems more BORING as of late. New characters being released don’t fill me with any kind of joy and to be honest evoke the opposite reaction when I think about doing a HM farm that seems to average one shard a day even when simming 7-8 battles at once... then that’s not to mention gearing them with the ridiculous stun gun etc. grind... and then G12+ pieces... :(
Yeah maybe that’s my problem. I’m just bored. Arena is super stale with mega whales whaling out on Traya. Too many toons, not enough resources. It’s becoming too much of a bore.
To be fair, "whaling out on Traya' doesn't make any sense as she's FTP and many whales don't have her. It's more of the legacy players that have her because they are in stronger guilds with people who have been playing long as they have.
As far as FTP with the slow death, people have been saying that day 1. FTP is fine and will be fine. It's just that 6 month players can't expect to keep up with 2 year players for obvious reasons..
You make think it is fine and that's your opinion. The truth is the gap is slowly widening and soon will pick up more and more speed. G12 and 6 dot mods being gated behind is going to create a huge gap once the P2P get their toons equipped with them.
Soon unless your lucky enough to be on a dead shard top spots in arena and fleet will be unobtainable. Plus whatever legendary they planning on releasing and assuming the Toons needed will either be on HN or Ship HN in 6 months or so means it will be a year and half or 2 hears out before F2P has a shot at it.
So yeah I think F2P competively is dying. Slowly right now but it will pick up speed. If you are F2P I think you need to start getting your mind set to just have fun and play with your favorite star wars Toons and forget about trying to compete unless like I said you happen to be lucky on a half dead shard.
I think it's more about your mindset and less about the game changing for the competiveness of FTP.
The real change is that there will be less of a margin for error with FTP resource management... If you prioritize mod slicing and rarity 6 for arena teams you'll be fine. Its the same thing when mods were first introduced. Those who chose to ignore suffered and those who prioritized succeeded. At the end of the day, your arena team can only have 5 characters and FTP will catch up. It's just the individuals choice of how long that gap will be and in the current environment, speed has never mattered so little.
However, the dream would be to lock down some bottom feeders from climbing too high in arena just because they unlocked a raid characters (Traya). It better have gear and great mods to be successful too!
Full disclosure I prepared for mods 2.0 by banking 5k in crystals to burn on mod energy. It's gone now, but I had some great updates and it was well worth it.
