Is there a end game objective in SWGoH?

I mean all we do is level and gear toons all day long. Is there a final boss for this expac? There is no quest line...so nothing from a story based progression. So what's the end game?

It seems the idea is to upgrade toons that you can use to upgrade more toons that you can use to upgrade more toons. I don't know if this appeals to people- if there are people who want to keep this up for years- but I think the game needs more skill based and competitive modes. Something like a live PVP ladder like Hearthstone, that would always change due to different players trying different strategies.
