No there is no way to unlink an account.
More than likely it can be done due to not wanting someone to be able to steal your account and disconnect you. May also have account sale implications, which they would try to avoid. This could also be on the Google/Apple end of things, not sure.
Either way, if support is stating they can't, it is likely that you can't.
