The idea that a salvage piece that people once had thousands of has become such a big gear crunch for so many players is ridiculous. Has CG ever answered a question about them specifically in any Q&A...

If it really matters to you, the types of gear that can drop from tank is available on swgoh.gg. Whether I personally have or have not gotten any specific piece of that gear makes no difference. We know what can drop, so my personal loot drops aren't really relevant to the conversation.
More interesting would be to find what used to drop before the change, and compare that to what can now drop, and determine if the removal of GES is an overall downgrade in tank raid drops. It might be, but removal of challange gear from ALL raids is a net gain.
That would require knowing the chance of each to drop. Which, since it’s not published, I’m not sure how you would know without paying attention to actual raid rewards.
Some basic assumptions could be made:
1) The chance that a gold piece drops vs a purple drops was unchanged between old and new raid rewards.
2) The number of pieces that drop of a given color remain unchanged between old and new raid rewards.
I expect 1 is true (but of course it can't be proven or disproven without access to the code repository).
I think 2 is also true in terms of tank raid rewards. The changes to challange gear removal also revolved around the hsith dropping full pieces compared to now. I have a vague recollection of them reducing overall amounts of components too, but my memory may be faulty here. But I think that change (if it happened at all) was only for hsith rewards.
But given those 2 assumptions a comparison could be made. But again, either of those two are unaffected by my personal raid reward drops. Even if I had personally tracked them, my own sample size on its own would be small enough that margin of error would be pretty wide.
