I think It’s more like “you have to face your fears” than “you need to face a sith to become a jedi, even though the jedi order had for a long time lots of jedi masters that never faced one”

That's a better way of looking at it, fits better with the idea of jedi avoiding conflict

Jedis are supposed to oppose the dark side. Vader is a Sith who is related to Luke. So to become a Jedi, he must overcome the dark side within him.

It wasn't about facing a sith or even Vader. It was about facing himself. Vader was just the manifestation of his own fears.

It wasnt because he needs to face a sith to be a Jedi but he must overcome fear. Vader in that scene was a representation of his fear that he'd follow in his father's footsteps.

He also didnt wear that outfit in ESB, he became fetish Luke in ROTJ, wearing his black suit and handcuffs ! After playing with his swords with his daddy in his gimp suit, he became a jedi (also confirmed by the movie title, Return of the Jedi)

So guessing this journey ends with him putting on his outfit and becoming Jedi Knight Luke, from return if the jedi not from ESB Luke

You might want to rethink the title of your post. If he wasn't a jedi after ESB than he was a jedi before or he was never jedi.

Perhaps, the title should be Luke wasnt a jedi until the after events of ROTJ
