I really don't mind the coliseum as a replacement for the old marquee system.
It's even a little challenge trying to get the best score you can, in the 5 attempts that it gives you per day, and that forces you to learn the new toon abilities, as opposed to the old system where you'd just auto through the marquee, forget about the toon, and then in a few months when it's 7 stars and relic, have no clue how to use it.
Would I spend money or crystals on any of it? Not a chance. I'm up to levels 31-31-29 F2P now and not stressing over it at all.
Colosseum replacing marquees? Yes, it's better. Replacing GCs? Hell no
At least with the old marquee system you could take the tunes into Galactic war and experiment like a sandbox. I knew everything about the tunes by the time The old marquee system was done. Aside from the compensation gifts I will concede that getting access to light speed tokens on a regular basis also is pretty great. However it does come with a slap in the face that the only way you can progress up the leaderboard (And thereby gain access to said Light speed tokens) is to hope and pray you get RNG off of the mis-matched tunes they give us to work with. (I'm not even sure that spending money will help you progress up the leaderboard. I have seen many posts about people who have dropped hundreds of dollars and not gotten much better results.)
Again, Boo. Lame. Cash grab.
