As someone who "missed precraft 1.0" and took part in 2.0 I can say post mod-nerf...the difference between 3-4* mods to 5* is negligible. First off the cost to upgrade that many mods is similar to the U.S. debt....your gonna need a press to print your credits to accomplish maxing mods....I fully upgraded a set for arena use and MUST pay to remove and swap those 5* mods as the cost of upgrading them severely impacted my rosters level development and I STILL have many toons waiting for a stockpile of credits just to get promoted....
As things stand now...I'd suggest using only 3-4* mods as the cost is simply too prohibitive to use 5* mods....that is the strategy I have adapted...and the performance variation is barely noticeable.
(With exception of colored lv 1 mods)
Also don't forget the looming issue of 6 and 7* mods coming in the future...if you think that precraft 2.0 is an issue you will see my words ring true when the 6-7* mods come out....the 5* mods will go the route of Darth Sidious.
