I did my refreshes on the first day and still got it. So I'm not sure what you mean about attempts on the second day? Those that waited until the next day to finish it up didn't pay extra for packs.
Exactly. If you got 7* day 1, you bought 5 packs to do so. If you waited until the refresh, you got an extra free attempt plus only needed 4 refreshes.
1250x5 - 999x4 = 2,254, which is the amount of the reimbursement. It doesn't take into account any shard store currency the day 1 people got, but oh well I guess.
