They release version specific "timeline" toon so they can do something special ($) when they release JL.

They need something to increase interest in the "later years"

True. I've always thought of him in that fashion considering his weapon and lack of Jedi skills.

He definitely had Anakin's light saber in his current get up. He also could simply have the Rebel pistol he used in ESB. This rifle that is fabricated is just weird. And yes he could be Red 5 very easily. Isn't like he did anything memorable in that XWing. Oh wait, he avenged Jedha, Scarif, and Alderann.

We should have tattoine luke, storm trooper luke, padawan luke, jedi luke, old man luke and grand master luke (yes sarcasm) but I agree there should be a better version and I also agree with him being a pilot.
