Run your battles refresh what you want and then go on with your day. Once you are out of points there is nothing you can do to improve your rank.
Leaderboard placement can definitely use some work.
I've come to the conclusion that the most important thing in these tournaments is definitely your defense squad and not how many ally points you have. I've been in the top 3 a couple of times now and i've seen some people's score skyrocket in matters of seconds because of their defense team. A simple solution would be to completely remove the defense team mechanism behind these tournaments and rely only on your attack team / ally points.
Actually what makes the biggest difference is finding those 2 or 3 easy teams to beat.
As long as your are not setting a very weak defense team it is not helping others. You don't gain points for defense wins, however with a weak defense team you all others easy points.
Are you sure you're not getting points from your defense wins? How do you explain then the fact that some player's score increased in matter of seconds and kept getting higher and higher by the second.
