The tournament system was deeply flawed from the out set. As it seems the devs are insistant in keeping the tournament format a number of changes need to be introduced to create a competitive environment that is enjoyable. Some may seem drastic on first viewing but give them some thought.
1) Year period is divided into seasons (2 or 4) at the end of each season ally points are reset to zero. A date is clearly advertised in advance for this, so people are not caught unaware - then it's a use it or lose it situation (or conversion to credits).
2) New GW currency introduced (GW tokens MkII for season 2, MK3 for season 3, etc.) - old season currency converted to Credits.
3) Pre-tournament sign up that enters you to be assigned in the tournament as soon as it launches.
4) In tandem with the tournament sign up, tournament shard size is increased and the reward brackets readjusted, to be percentage based of the shard e.g. Top 5% 7*, top 10% 6* top 15% 5*, top 20% 4*, top 25% 3*, top 30% - last shards in decreasing number
5) Defence squads can not participate in attacking
Reasons to consider:
This solves the devs problem of horded GW currency, and ensures the situation never occurs again. It creates a more competitive environment, it makes doing and finishing GW important. Therefore larger roasters are important for GW and the tournament.
