Maul is only meta as a counter to wiggs, who were only meta as a counter to old ben/dooku, who were only meta because they were a counter to whatever team was meta at that point in time. In conclusion, all the meta teams arent really meta, they're merily counters.

So how do you explain a leaderboard, previously filled with maul leads, now dominated by rex teams? (other than a the counter to a previous meta becomming the new meta) It's no longer an effective counter to maul leads because there are no more maul leads.
Because Maul is still there, dictating the meta. Maul wasn't a counter to the wiggs meta, it obsoleted the wiggs meta and every other meta (except faster Jedi teams)... until Rex came as a counter to it.
the random Rex teams - they may disappear - but the Rex+Chaze+ GK/zKylo/DN...no they would not totally disappear. If those squads didn't defend well generally than people wouldn't be able to leave them in as leaders. If they were truly only a "counter" team, people would climb with them, but switch to another leader to defend. These Rex + chaze elite meta teams are very sticky in their rank on a leaderboard - I see them hold better than zDM leaders everyday. DN leads hold better than zDM currently. DN lead + a mix of SA / SiT / Dooku / GK / zSid / zSO ...very strong squads.
