Maul (L) is no longer meta and has passed

Some time ago, there was a lot of zMaul and zVader. People countered them using Rex, which is providing TM, cleanse and tencaity up, so Rex appeared to be the perfect counter to both of them.
We can see that zVader is not anymore a meta, placing at the same position as zQGJ and Wedge (who is still there btw).
Phoenix and Rogue1 are good but won't be meta. So it is with this other factions except maybe Empire, which can come back with new toons and rework. A lot of people already have empire toons, and DT and Krennic are now farmable. In some weeks, more Krennic leader teams will come.

zMaul is the best defense. Rex can beat it, but not as easy as zMaul can beat Rex. Anyone who hasn't played vs the best maul set ups don't really know. They play maul and expect to win for free and when they don't, they go back to Rex. That doesn't mean Rex is better, it just means they haven't built a proper zMaul team.

well, obviously you haven't played vs the best Rex set ups.

My bet: Zaul-User are tiered of fighting other Zaul-Teams, so they change to another lead (Rex) ...
Zaul vs. Zaul ... ever seen? Evaded, get hit, evaded, evaded, hit+heal, evaded, evaded, get hit, evaded, evaded, hit+heal, evaded, evaded, evaded, ... oh wait, battle time is over.

Since GG is a widespread sample across many shared, it's not going to be a leading indicator of what really is meta compared to a certain few advanced leaderboards. It's more of a lagging indicator since anything that tags more with the masses will be slower than the most advanced segment of the game. The fact that even on a widespread basis zDM has been steadily losing leader % points is a sign that he's on the downside - that doesn't mean useless, but he's on the downside. His leader at one time was nearly 50%, now it's down to 42%

I'd already been seeing this on my leaderboard for a few weeks and starting pushing the DN / Dooku / Savage angle to counter the Rex squads and elite Jedi comps.

The most impressive thing in the meta report to me though is the usage of DN....70%!!!!!! NERF DN! :) jk jk

Interesting statement :) I believe you're right. The fun thing is, zMaul(L) with sith assassin can easily beat DN lead squads. This leads to the following vicious circle:

- Starting point: Many zMaul leads in top 20
- More Rex leads to counter the zMaul squads
- More Darth Nihilius leads to counter the Rex Leads
- More zMaul leads to counter the Darth Nihilius leads
- Again: More Rex leads to counter the zMaul squads
- etc.. etc....

That's why I like my Rex DN GK Zarris DT set up. The battles are very drawn out and I can just use Anahilate and Deathmark for every kill. I reach DN 1hko much faster that the opponent because of DTs debuffs and his own CD increase. It is a charm on offense.

Interesting comp ! Would this team work without Zariss and GK ? Other option I have are Boba, TFP, shore, sunfac, Palpatine all maxed.

It's incredibly fun to use, and I hate dodge. Never used Old Ben or Dooku, won't use Zaul. Love using Jedi. The path of the Jedi is difficult, but rewarding.

@Ig88isboss if there is a prevalent counter to maul (L), does it follow that maul is then no longer meta? By sharing the development of my shard's top 20, I intended to share the experiences of our players who formerly were predominantly using maul. Now they don't for the most part. I suppose it's possible our shard's top 20 don't know how to set up a proper maul led team, but tbh - I doubt that.

Now, I'm not proposing Rex is meta, but if I did propose anything, perhaps there is no one meta team. Each team rising to the top, has a counter, suggesting as swgoh develops as a game, they have begun to reach the gaming community 's goal of roshambo (rock, paper, scissors).

As for quoting swgoh.gg, I would propose their stats are comprised of a player base who may not have the toons developed to properly counter maul led comps, thus the meta report is a lagging indicator.

Good zJinn teams have no issues vs. zDM - this is the biggest fallacy perpetuated on these forums.

There's about 5 ZGJ on my top 20 shard. All can get rank 1 against zauls at their payout. In fact it's easier for them then my own rex team against zauls

I'm on a Nov 15 shard and zaul is definitely still dominate. Pretty sure the guy who posted this topic just got his little sith all geared up and zeta and wants to quiet down the nerf crowd by being a smart you know what. The swgoh.gg stats don't lie. And the fact that rex gets dominated by so many comps as well.
