May 4th 5k Crystal Data Pack - Missed Opportunity
I'm not going to gripe that the new raid required under utilized factions. I'm not a huge fan of being coerced into using factions that I'm not excited about, but it's hardly the first time (new tb?)
This continues the strategy of pushing more monetization onto the relic grind, and also rewarding players who paid to get ahead of the curve on new factions. From a business point of view this makes sense and for F2P players, like me (full disclosure), we're getting "something for nothing" ... and if we can't ride the cutting edge ... well that's the price we pay (how many pay for hotutils every months but religiously refused to buy a CG pack?)
The 5k crystal 330 shards of a character was an opportunity to soften the blow of the new raid's requirements that I feel was lost. I did not opt for the packs for one simple reason: the ratio of 7* characters to non 7* characters in my roster. The odds were steadfastly in my favour that I would be investing a lot of crystals into shard shop currency.
I recognize that the code for the packs might not permit something akin to "guaranteed you won't get a character you already have" and perhaps that's not even desirable, some risk should be in there right? Maybe. Also the game might not be able to support "choose 1 of 4 faction packs - light side" ... e.g. a 5k pack that gives me a Hutt Cartel character but then disqualifies me from purchasing a similar pack for OR/Mandos/Jawas/etc.
A pack where the available characters were ONLY the Krayt eligible characters would have been interesting and would have also contained "some" risk, I have some of the characters at 7*, if not R5, but many of the newer characters are rocking their Marquee star levels.
Might I have pulled the trigger on such a pack and thought "well, it'll help build towards the new raid"? I think so, and I'm so cheap with purple crystals for packs that I'm not sure I'd notice if the store was removed from the game.
