MOD RANT - Calibration rolls

This one is one of those things that just seem to be the game to be flaming annoying.

I really don't get why devs insist on having this kind of setup in the game which basically drives your players to resent the game. Honestly its low quality stuff like this which adds reasons to light the pyre of quit and leave the game.

So What is it?  Calibration rolls which uncannily appear to reroll straight back on the stat that the player is obviously trying to change. Why?

I basically rolled 4 times to change a stat into 2 other other available stats and got the same stat returned 4 times! in a row. Hardily seems random to me! If its hard coded to not happen, why not just state this beforehand so its clear to the player.

Can we please have something put in the code to not just immediately roll back to the stat your attempting to bounce away from or put a % increase per roll so its more difficult to continually hit the same stat.

On that note I just pop out and get myself a lotto ticket..Cheers

I don't think there's a reason to believe it's not random, but it is extremely annoying. I would prefer the same stat not be available, but ostensibly the reason is because some people might want to reroll the same stat if one of the rolls is bad.

However, for me it seems like it almost always rolls a lower value on the same one. Upgrading a mod should never make it objectively worse. So I wish they would hard code it so that if it *does* roll the same stat, it at least rolls higher than what it was.

  • Issue here is you dont understand what random means, you expect the next result to be dependant on the first and so forth, when that is not the case. Basic probability shows that a true 1 in 4 chance does not have to guarantee the result you want within 4 trys. In fact with true chance you can go over 100 tries without getting the desired value.

Further to this games that seem to be unfair are likelier to be true RNG as the kind of results you are seeing have no "pity" mechanism to give you better odds after a number of "failures".

  • On calibrations, you have a 25% chance (or 33% if one of the stats is already at 5 rolls) to get the stat you want. If you just want to roll off the stat you're taking the roll away from, you still have a 25% or 33% chance to roll the same stat. Rolls are independent. Rolling the same stat once doesn't improve the odds for a desirable result next time. You still have a 25% or 33% chance to roll back into the same stat.
