Mods vs relics

I have read and learned first hand that mods are more important than gear (to a certain extent. Although when combined, they are both enhanced). I have watched several video series on modding and wish I would have known about them when I first started being able to get them.

Anyway. My question is, as a free player, should I work toward relics or continue to devote my resources to maximizing my mods via upgrades and slicing and then calibrating? Then work on relics. My resources are limited to a certain extent.
  • If you have limited resources you’re better off developing relics than god mods. Your crystals should be focused on getting you more teams for every mode but specifically the teams that will help you increase your resources.
  • It depends. Some characters are mods hungry (most support characters), some are relic hungry (e.g. tanks). Best work on both selectively.

And also, work on your DCs!

Limited resource meaning crystal, the most efficient way would be to buy resources at the cheapest price, both being useful.
The best use for crystals is to buy the cheapest refreshes of energy for each energy. So you can buy everday:
    regular energy for 3x50
    fleet energy for 3x50
    mod energy for 3x50
    cantina energy for 3x100

All are awesome. Now let's say your question means you don't have the crystal income to buy everything. Let's assume that you didn't unlock every character in the journey guide. Then relics are arguably more important in order to gear prerequisites, especially because you will unlock characters that would improve your income faster (Exe/Prof will net you crystals in fleet arena, GLs will allow you to improve your passive crystal income going higher on the gac ladder, Jabba will get you mods every month via Smuggler's run...). But only Relic prerequisites characters to the required level (or characters that you unlocked thanks to prerequisites characters because they are great). Exceptions should stay exceptions and only because it makes a huge difference. The less you spend the more you can spend elsewhere.
Now about modding: working on mods doesn't only mean slicing/calibrating. You first need to build a strong mod roster by farming new mods. Then only slice/calibrate your great mods. It will be less efficient short term but much more efficient long term, as you will not devote resources to improve meh mods that will be replaced by better mods later on.

Unfortunately I can't give you a straight answer to your question. Hopefully these 10mn I spent on this message will still be helpful.

Mods are not the be all end all, even with subpar mods you can beat any other team as long as you use the counter. A relic 9 slkr with god mods will still lose to a relic 5 JMK, its the kit that matters not the relic or the mod, even characters with 10 speed mods will still do their jobs as long as they have the right sets.

What do you mean by kit?

What do you mean by right sets?

Right sets would be like using an 4 offense mods on general Anakin Skywalker, or 6 tenacity mod on on B2, things of that nature

Gotcha. That makes sense. I was already doing that. Just never it heard it called that before. I just joined this community less than a week ago. So learning all the lingo. ?

What? Slkr is poor v jmk but a poor see can beat jmk. Your point doesnt explain character attributes. Kit?

The truth is that a relic toon is nowhere near a well modded toon. Dont waste resource on daft mods.

You need to understand what mods are needed for speed, mark, crit avoidance and health/protection.

Understanding their role...i.e crew...tanks...specific abilities. Read each one, get an ideal mod template and update or enhance.
