New Player GAC defensive holds are too punishing

Defensive holds in GAC make that entire round really unfun. With so few fights in GAC, losing a fight in the front wall really hurts how much GAC you get to play that round. I think it's fun to attempt to fight the ultra strong team, but once I fail it I'd like to be able to progress the GAC and see how my other teams match up.
It'd be nice if the back walls exposure was based on attempting fights against teams instead of defeating them. I know I'll lose to banners since I get 0 from the fight I can't win and 0 points for the zone I can't clear, but I can at least have fun doing the fleet or fighting the backwall. Not sure if that's the right solution as I think it's fair for me to lose the GAC if I can't beat that team on the frontwall, but losing a strong team and the banner loss seems like it'd be enough.
